Weight Advantage

I have been saying for years that we need to get away from the weight "advantage" when discussing heavyweights. It doesn't exist. Weight doesn't win you fights.

We need to look at power, speed, skill, heart, chin, intelligence etc.

I thought this myself after hearing Wilder again making excuses. I actually had started to gain some respect for him after such a gritty fight in the trilogy,til he showed his lack of class right after the fight then again started with the excuses of Fury s weight and laying and pushing on him especially since that really didn't happen this fight because the referee was actively reffing.

They're Heavyweights!! Many Heavyweights were outweighed,some considerably,but they knew going in they were at a weight disadvantage,but trucked on.

Fury s weight was an advantage but it was his skills that prevailed.

When a fighter chooses to compete at Heavyweight,that's it.Whether they are the bigger man or their opponent thats the deal.

If you cant hang with the big dogs drop down to Cruiserweight.
But when you're 230 plus. ,unless its a blatant foul fest,thems the breaks. Heavyweights are big. Much bigger now than they used to be.

That's like complaining they are too tall.
Valued was tall and heavy.

Holyfield,Spinks were small heavyweights. I don't remember them complaining.

Obviously, pounds themselves aren't an advantage. It's about an ability to use weight. And, of course, it's not necessarily works like the bigger weight the bigger advantage. Every fighter has its own limit. All that stuff was demonstarated well with Fury and Wilder. Fury can get an advantage of weight, he did it in the 2nd and the 3rd fights, but in the last one he was too heavy by own stadards, which caused some drawbacks. While extra-muscle did absolutely nothing for Wilder.

220 seems a lifetime ago.
Then it was 250's Lewis Klitschko.
277 today in Tyson Fury.
