Plant: “I respect your skills.”

Plant: “I’m pretty good for 21-0, huh?”

Plant: “No problem, payday is good!”

Canelo: “You like it?”

Plant: “Yeah, these M's are good in these pandemic times”

Canelo: “I know.”

Fake bravado!

How many times have we witnessed fighters shaking their head and waving their gloves after being on the receiving end of a cleanly-landed powerful blow, as if to dishonestly pretend the shot didn’t hurt them?

Plant was pretty much doing the same thing, but with his voice.

Desperately trying anything to distract Canelo from being 100% fully-focussed.

I wouldn’t be so critical of Plant’s discussion with Canelo if he’d at least tried something else beforehand, when it was abundantly clear his current gameplan was failing, but he didn’t.

He was a one-trick pony and was unable to adapt his fighting style, so instead he chose to talk rather than doing something meaningful.
