Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. To Face David Zegarra on December 18
Former WBC middleweight world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is embarking on what is certainly the last opportunity to redeem himself.
The Mexican boxer, 35-years-old, is planning to enter the ring on December 18th in his native Culiacán, Sinaloa, and he will face Peruvian boxer David Zegarra, who is 37-years-old.
Zegarra has taken part in 34 professional fights, of which he won 24, lost 6 and tied 4.
He's on a three fight losing streak, with defeats to Ali Akhmedov, David Lemieux and Stefan Haertel - all by knockout.
For his part, Chavez Jr. has lost two of his last three fights, with decision losses to Anderson Silva and Mario Cazares.
The loss to Silva, a 46-year-old UFC legend, was devastating.
The Mexican veteran has promised to restore what's left of his career.
The "Son of a Legend" is now cutting off a lot of people that he believes were using him for his name and vows to take his preparation seriously.
"I am going to win, now I am calmer. On December 18 I will fight for support and I will win because now I am a lot calmer, I will prepare much better, I'm more at ease. I cared about everyone and nobody cared about me; now I only worry about myself and I don't worry about anyone else," Chavez Jr. said.

Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Closes Out The Year With Decision Win Over Zegarra
Former WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. returned to the ring with a victory in his 61st fight, with a deep desire to resume his professional career. However, he did not convince his fans.
Chavez (53-6-1-1 NC, 34 KO's) prevailed by unanimous decision, although the cards were not released at the Palenque of the Livestock Fair in Culiacán, against Peruvian opponent David Zegarra (34-7, 21 KO's) in a 10-round light heavyweight fight.
The 35-year-old fighter made it clear that he is far from the level that led him to win the World Boxing Council title, by dragging his feet in certain rounds against Zegarra, who added his fourth consecutive defeat. Zegarra, 37, was moving up in weight and suffered knockout losses in his last three fights.
Chavez Jr. was embarrassed by his last performance in June, which saw him lose an eight round split decision to former UFC champion Anderson Silva, who was 46 years old and entering the ring with a two-fight record of 1-1. Chavez was not in top shape for the fight and weighed in nearly 10-pounds above the light heavyweight limit.
At this stage of his career, in which he assured he is more focused, Chavez hopes to return to his best possible level to dispute a fight for a world title.
He's gone 3-3 in his last six performances since 2019.
He was stopped by Daniel Jacobs in five rounds in December 2019. A comeback fight against Mario Cazares ended in disaster in September 2020, when he lost a six round technical decision. Cazares was knocked out in one round in his very next fight, against rising star David Morrell. After the loss to Cazares, Chavez would then pick up a TKO win before losing the contest with Silva.
