Cooney was more of a boxer than Baer, but he wouldn't be able to make a boxing match out of a fight imposed by Baer. Of course, Cooney could hit hard, so as Max, while Baer seemed to be a tougher operator with a more proven credibility at the higher level. Baer would make it quite Carnera-like.
