Roy Jones Jr vs Deontay Wilder

Post by zuru »

12 Rd Heavyweight
That last Fury fight gave me a respect for Wilder I didn't have. I still think he's way overrated,as well as his power, but I do believe he has 1 punch ko power, just not "the hardest puncher ever".

Jones blows him away skill for skill. And I think he can ko Wilder when he hits him.
But now I wonder, can he get in to hit him, without getting hit?

If he can,he wins. But Im sure Wilder hits waaay harder than Tarver. And I don't think Jones chin is near as good as Fury.

Wilder stands to look foolish against someone so talented as Jones because his technique is so bad.
But again, if Wilder lands, boom done.

A fun matchup of the swift and skilled midget against the long and rangy windmill with huge power in his looping punches. Jones' weak chin contributes the most in making the matchup intriguing. Jones could outbox Wilder for sure, while he would go down for good in a case of being caught, which seems real enough. Even in the dominant performance against the sloppy loser Ruiz there were unnecessary shots taken by Jones. Wilder clearly has more power and better timing than the Hugging Man. So, from what we've seen from Jones in his short-lived HW career, it looks more like he wouldn't be able to get the job done against Deontay. I can see Jones winning a row of rounds, but eventually he gotta be iced.

Being behind on points, Wilder by a late kayo.

Jones would absolutely light him up. Wilder would be clueless with the feints and lead potshots from Jones. 1 bomb from Wilder though and Jones goes to bed.

I think that this would be a Very Winnable bout for Jones Jr. It would have to be when you only needed to weigh-in at 176 to be a Heavyweight though. I think Jones Jr would be slowed down a tad bit too much and be extra prone to getting caught, if he weighs just a few lbs too many. I'm guessing that at his Lightheavyweight prime, Jones Jr walked into the ring at 180-185..?
That's where he'd Need to be, weight-wise.

Jones wins all 12 rounds, and looks untouchable or gets touched and goes to sleep. Those are the 2 possible outcomes.

Brutal knockout loss suffered by Jones Jr. However long it last, Jones wouldn't win a round.

I agree. I think Jones makes Wilder look stupid for as long as it lasts. But Wilder will catch him and knock him out
