Coppinger isn’t normally wrong. Good news if true. Wonder how that leaves the Wasserman fighters on Sky.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑01 Mar 2022, 16:26 Mike C reckons it will be a TV deal..

Also wonder how that impacts Hennessy on channel 5. They had some good shows/fights last year so I hope they’re not bumped off and the Wasserman shows are in addition to it. Saying that, does Mick actually have any shows planned?

Hennessy puts on like 3-4 shows a year though doesn’t he? Was never a lot. Hopefully he can keep his slots.maverick23 wrote: ↑01 Mar 2022, 16:59Coppinger isn’t normally wrong. Good news if true. Re: Wasserman Announcement Tomorrow 9am
Eubank Jr on Channel 5 seems about right.
Re: Wasserman Announcement Tomorrow 9am
Hopefully it will be as well as the Hennessy shows.

Re: Wasserman Announcement Tomorrow 9am
Confirmed deal with channel 5 for 5 fight nights a year. Nothing specific mentioned re:Hennessy but the press release mentions it’s an exclusive deal. That could mean a lot of things though so hopefully Sam Eggington and co will still be on channel 5.

Press Release
Wasserman Boxing and Channel 5 today announce an exclusive multi-event deal that will bring boxing to terrestrial television in a series of free-to-air fight nights delivered in association with Infinitum Entertainment and William Hill.
“We’re thrilled to be partnering with Channel 5,” said Wasserman COO of Global Football and Boxing, Fahri Ecvet. “This exciting new deal guarantees the continuation of free-to-air boxing in the UK and will provide our boxers with a fantastic platform to showcase their abilities to the biggest possible audience.”
Formed following the acquisition of European promoter Team Sauerland by leading global sports company Wasserman, Wasserman Boxing has become a player in the UK market, promoting several of the country’s talents including Middleweight star Chris Eubank Jr, Welterweight contender Josh Kelly, Heavyweight hope Nathan Gorman, rising Super Lightweight Harlem Eubank, and undefeated Middleweight Linus Udofia.
“This is a major move that is going to revolutionize free-to-air boxing in the UK,” said Wasserman Head of Global Boxing, Kalle Sauerland.
“We all know the brilliant numbers that Channel 5 does with boxing and we feel with these great partners we can take this to a whole new level! We are going to deliver premium events featuring breath-taking productions, filled arenas and incredible match ups. Also expect a surprise or two in the build ups. We can’t wait to get started!”
The deal will secure five free-to-air fight nights for Channel 5 in 2022 that will also be streamed live on My5 and available on the player to catch up.
Caj Sohal, Head of Sport at Channel 5 said: “We are very excited to be partnering with Wasserman, one of the world’s largest sports marketing companies, to continue to bring top class fights free-to-air in the UK. With the industry expertise of the Sauerland brothers and the incredible reach of the Wasserman agency, our audience can look forward to some unforgettable nights of boxing live and free on Channel 5.”
“In the last 7 years, through our unique funding model, Infinitum Entertainment has been instrumental in making free to air boxing happen on Channel 5 and we look forward to working closely with our new promoter partner Wasserman in 2022 to deliver the biggest boxing audiences on TV,” said Damon Letzer, Director at Infinitum Entertainment.

Does this just mean Wasserman are exclusive to C5, or does the deal cut both ways?
If so, seems very unfair on Hennessy Sports.

Neither is one a month or every 6 weeks on DAZN, if you're getting shows on a Saturday night free on C5 that dilutes demand for paying 8 quid a month for similar.maverick23 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:18How? Wasserman’s stable is extremely thin. This will help them attract more fighters but 5 shows a year isn’t much at all.
As a fighter it is a lot easier to get publicity across the C5 network and build a profile than being stuck on an app watched by a few thousand.
As a fan the more shows like this are brilliant and if it does good viewing figures it might tempt BBC or ITV back

Are you serious? Eddie hearn and DAZN are huge. no one can really dispute that. Wasserman getting the ch5 gig now is good for them, but they have a small and limited stable, they arent above hearn and dazn! interesting if mick continues to have dates on there, hes had some good fights to be fair to him, dilmaghani vs fonseca and ziani, eggingtons great fight against the frenchie, and richards and pitters had some drama too.
cant see ch 5 letting two promoters on there though, theyd have to be putting on boxing almost 10 times a year for it to work, and with budget constraints etc to consider, its unlikely.

Re: Wasserman Announcement Tomorrow 9am
not true really, ch 5 only did over a million once (outside of khans fight) since 2019, with dilmaghani and fonseca (1.5 million). It doesnt raise your profile much, as it doesnt often draw in regular boxing fans. The numbers can be found on thinkbox.com if your ever curious to follow themtony1234 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:22Neither is one a month or every 6 weeks on DAZN, if you're getting shows on a Saturday night free on C5 that dilutes demand for paying 8 quid a month for similar.maverick23 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:18How? What you reckon Hennessy pays out in purses per event?Offthehook wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:29Are you serious? Eddie hearn and DAZN are huge. no one can really dispute that. The opponents he gets got his boxers surely don't get much..
Would you say less than £200k a show? Around £100k?
10 shows a year isn't even one a month either, and recent years, Mick has only put on like 3-4 shows max..

ch5 have other sports, and a budget, cant see any terrestrial doing 8-10 boxing shows a year, and ch5 arent a powerhouse like itv or bbc. thats what i meant. mick is probably owed dates from them still, so this year he should be safe, but going forward, especially with eubank jr, ch5 wont have the budget for two, thats my thoughts anyway.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:38What you reckon Hennessy pays out in purses per event?Offthehook wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:29Are you serious? I'm sure Eubank will still be on Boxxer on Sky for his fights. He's co-promoted or something. Will have to see.Offthehook wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:46ch5 have other sports, and a budget, cant see any terrestrial doing 8-10 boxing shows a year, and ch5 arent a powerhouse like itv or bbc. thats what i meant. mick is probably owed dates from them still, so this year he should be safe, but going forward, especially with eubank jr, ch5 wont have the budget for two, thats my thoughts anyway.Ruthless-RKO wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:38What you reckon Hennessy pays out in purses per event?Offthehook wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:29

I checked CH5 Sports.
Depending on their budget, They have boxing (Hennessy Sports), WWE highlights and Strongest Man.
Just the 3 sports, unless there's some other's I've missed. This is via the website.

I can’t imagine there’s anyone today that’s thinking ‘Great…Wasserman have taken on Hennessy‘s shows on channel 5….I’ll cancel my DAZN subs.’ I don’t think it dilutes the demand for anything.tony1234 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:22Neither is one a month or every 6 weeks on DAZN, if you're getting shows on a Saturday night free on C5 that dilutes demand for paying 8 quid a month for similar.maverick23 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2022, 08:18How? It’s a big misconception that fighting on channel 5 translates into more publicity and a bigger profile. James Degale went from Olympic gold, headlining a Sky PPV to fighting at Glow and a Bristol Sports Centre.
Channel 5 having 90minutes or so of boxing every 10 weeks won’t translate into making stars or ticket sellers. They do minimal shoulder programming and don’t push heavily on social. Yes - the shows will be seen by more people but are many of those people ever going to buy a ticket to see them because they’re invested in them? Unlikely.

Re: Wasserman Announcement Tomorrow 9am
Will only be interested in this once they actually announce cards and shows.
Channel 5 is not a big player, HOWEVER, I personally think if you have any kind of reasonabl profile at all, then Channel 5 is a great way of building that up - did just fine for Tyson Fury and Chris Eubank, and also I don't think Degale suffered at all.
It might be a good fit for Josh Kelly for example.
But it won't be the place you defend your world titles in packed arenas unless something miraculous happens.

Do channel 5 even push their shows? I don’t really watch any programs on the channel, so I wouldn’t know.
