Both Makhmudov and Beterbiev are Muslims who support Chechen independence from Russia.
Definitely not fair to them. They are not ethnic Russians and definitely not fans of Putin.

It may not be fair, but when nations are threatened with nuclear destruction, some things are bigger and more important than the sport.

Very true!
We must be more united and stronger and NOT allow to be bullied and decimated by a sovietic psychopath regime!

Could the Canelo-Bivol fight be cancelled due to the pressure from the media for staging a marquee sporting event involving a Russian?
Would viewers and potential ringside seat buyers boycott the event?

But the decision is stupid and pointless. For example Makhmudov lives in Canada, and all his 14 fights were in Canada. Why are they punishing him? Just for being born at some place, something over which he has no control of? It's absurd, and completely unfair.

Allowing boxers to box would not be "being bullied by a regime." It isn't a decision that accomplishes anything meaningful.

The media regard meaningless virtue signals as being deeply significant gestures, to the point that those that actively refrain from participating in nonsense actions as worthy of being “cancelled”, such as those that refused to take the knee.
