Here is some new information for ID# 013764 Billy Young Rowlands
Firstly, his full name is William David Foster ROWLANDS, and he was born 14 Oct 1890 at Penygraig, Glamorgan, Wales, and died 24 Apr 1963 at Porthcawl, Glamorgan.
Secondly, the following newspaper report gives details of how a mistake by a referee cost William David Foster "Smiling Billy" ROWLANDS, 24, miner and professional boxer, a win at a boxing tournament held at Abertillery.
"Referee's Wrong Ruling at Abertillery.
There were several boxing tournaments in the Principality on Saturday, and at Abertillery, where in the Palladium a fifteen rounds' contest was witnessed between Billy ROWLANDS (Porthcawl) and Dick SORRIS (Cardiff), a referee, who we do not know, gave a wrong decision, making both boys suffer where only one was to blame. ROWLANDS and SORRIS boxed with considerable skill, but the former was quicker in his leads and never neglected a chance of using both hands at close quarters. In the seventh round, however, SORRIS claimed that he had been fouled, but the referee declared against him, and as SORRIS persisted in his protest the man in charge declared it 'no contest'. How he arrived at that decision we do not know, and we take this opportunity of informing him that as he rule that there was no foul he should, when SORRIS refused to continue, have given the fight to ROWLANDS."

This bout is not included in the database at BoxRec.com yet. As far as I can tell, this is the only time that Billy fought SORRIS.
Thanks,
