Joe Cordina vs Kenichi Ogawa - IBF title - June 4th

Post by maverick23 »

The fight’s been announced for Cardiff. Really good fight. I think Ogawa wins to be honest.

Nice fight. Very short notice Matchroom event isn't it?

Still waiting for the first DAZN Uk show that couldn't have been made on Sky Sports.

Kourbanov vs. Zelfa Barrett on the undercard for the EBU belt.

Not Kurbanov.

Yet another undercard that stinks

Game changed? Where Maya Jama at?

She’s not with DAZN any more. Fine by me as Woods is much better.

The undercard for this is poor. A decent European title fight (which I actually think Zelfa Barrett might lose) and then just mismatches at present. Needs a couple more meaningful fights - given it’s just over a week away who knows if that’ll happen.

Boxing TV should be pretty straightforward.

A good main event (60/40 minimum with a headline attraction close to or at world level)
Title chief support (ideally for a British or European belt)
Exciting prospect Vs Someone I don't give a toss about (6 rounds or less)
Low level fun match at area title level, quite possibly involving Babic.

Anything else should be confined to the pre show (accepting you will need a floating short fight).

In fairness, this card has got the first two, albeit they've done a terrible job of building up Joe.

Another boxer completely lost through inactivity and a non public profile, the only way to make something like DAZN work is to have boxers and fights that the general public want to see.
Buatsi and now Cordina are irrelevant in the big scheme of things now as nobody knows anything of them to make them want to watch them.
I'm not sure how Eddie Hearn can rectify this lack of recognition anymore, unless you have a massive fanbase already otherwise you won't make on buried away on an App and a few thousand subscribers

I thought Cordina was matched/promoted reasonably up to covid. He had 11 fights in his first 3 years which is a little low but I thought he was moving quite nicely. This will be his 4th fight in the last 2 1/2 years which isn’t enough. Obviously covid didn’t help and he’s had injuries but he needed more fights. You could also argue that the fights he’s had may not have adequately prepared him to fight at world level.

Jama was pish poor. But she was part of the game changed nonsense.

Unless Hearn N crawl his way back to Sky, he's not gonna survive much longer at FAZN.

His US list of fighters is pathetic and to say he had a billion bucks to spend

Too busy paying Jesse Vargas $3m and Mikey G $7m..

Then Jose Ramirez got around $5m to bring him
Over to DAZN to beat Hooker.

Jama was fine as a presenter but wasn’t really needed.

Eddie’s not going back to Sky anytime soon. Sky have long term deals with both Boxxer and Too Rank and I can’t see DAZN ceasing to broadcast. They need to do a lot more to get outside of the boxing bubble.

Eddie’s US stable isn’t deep but they’re putting on good fights. We had the Taylor/Serrano show (with Smith/Vargas on the undercard) and then Canelo/Bivol over the last 3/4 weeks and we’ve got Rodriguez/Rungsivai in a few weeks time.

Jama 'might' be a good presenter in another field but it definitely wasn't boxing. She was terrible, We all know it to be true.

No wonder she was offloaded pretty quickly.

It’s got a well matched European title fight as chief support - that’s probably just as good as any main event Frank’s had this year on BT let alone on an undercard.

The rest of the undercard is dire though.
