Norton was a more advanced competitor with a tricky style barely to everyone. Yes, his chin was questionable, that's why Lyle would have a puncher's chance, but it would be an extremely hard target for Lyle. It's easier for me to see Norton outboxing Lyle and breaking him down.

Either Norton outhustle Lyle to take a decision or Lyle would wear him down with jabs and heavy punches before knocking Norton out in the late rounds.

I'll say Lyle by something like 5-3-2 in a very good fight. Lyle lands enough big shots to keep Norton from outworking him.

Norton's chin has long been one of boxing's great myths. He didn't have a great chin, but he could take a decent shot.
Norton never stopped by Ali.
Lyle got stopped by Ali.
Maybe Norton had at least as good of a chin as Lyle.

Misleading bullcrap. Lyle got technical stoppage against Ali. I was just pointing out that Norton had a decent chin and that Lyle could get hurt.
The first time that Ali opened up against Lyle, he hurt him and the fight was stopped.
Lyle got hurt several times against a rusty Foreman and was eventually stopped. Obviously he landed some big shots himself.
You certainly could argue that Norton was past it against Shavers.
Norton also easily beat Quarry and seemed able to take his shots. Lyle lost a lopsided decision against Quarry and was hurt by Quarry.

Norton was also beaten badly and stopped by Jose Luis Garcia of Venezuela in his 17th fight. NO ! he did not have a glass jaw, but he could be vulnerable against a big puncher and Lyle fits the bill. I did say though my prediction would be Lyle by close decision.

Behind Ali, Foreman, Frazier then Norton followed by Holmes who easily was the greater in an all time rating just did his best work in the early 80's
