According to Richard Littlejohn in today's Daily Mail Glenn McCrory is to appear before Durham magistrates in August because he called a waitress " pet "and she has cited this as harrassment.
What is the world coming to ?
It's a term of endearment in the North East !!!

Is pet just a term, like people in different areas call people names without any hard intended.
A girl at work gets called Shugs by a certain individual.. I did a research and there's a lot of meanings. Some derogatory.
Old folk in Staffordshire say 'duck' a lot.. When I worked for Britannia BS, in the contact centre, every customer used 'duck' in almost every sentence.
Every sentence, literally 'thanks duck'.. 'ok duck'..

There is supposed to be a massive backlog of cases in the justice system, and this goes to court?? Absolutely unbelievable. The police should have laughed at the complainants. What a waste of time and money.

I know it is unbelievable. He probably had some food bought over and said " ah thanks pet " and she goes and gets offended. The world has gone mad...
Mind, I said "thanks mate" to a customer I served once and he replied: " I'm not your mate. I am a customer" and walked off !

Let's wait and see the full facts. Calling someone "Pet" is nowhere near the standard of harassment for the CPS to decide to charge someone and it's certainly not abusive.
I'm also a bit dubious it was a £5000 per head dinner.....

Anyone who has been out with or around Glen on a night out will know he's a handful. As per above, it might be worth waiting for the full story to come out before putting this down to 'political correctness gone mad'.

£5k for a dinner seems ridiculous….. what were they eating? Gold? No wonder Glenn wanted a couple of shiners from the waitresses at that price.

There must be more to this and Glenn's alleged behaviour.
Certain behaviours can amount to offences contrary to Section 5 or Section 4A of the Public Order Act, but calling someone 'Pet' and that constituting a criminal offence is ridiculous and not realistic and I am a practising criminal solicitor of 13 years, sat here drafting this in the solicitors room at a Magistrates' Court.

Something about this (the names Richard Littlejohn and Daily Mail) tells me the accusation is being simplified for shock value and to whip up the whole "snowflake/can't say anything nowadays" attitude.

I'm guessing he called them pet, they didn't like the term and then it got nasty. you absolutely would not go to court for calling someone pet.
