Does anyone know what he is up to these days? Is he still involved in Boxing? An underrated fighter in my humble opinion.

Very underrated IMO. Yes, I used to question his pathway to the top at times - must be one of the only champions who won all his belts (except his last championship) in a vacant title fight. However, there a not many fighters we can say with confidence he was truly world class - Clev was one and the fact he has been forgotten about largely shows how underrated he is - compare his fame with that of Bellew's post career.

Seemed such a down to earth and mature / settled guy out of the ring when he was fighting. I did worry (as I did with Naz) about how much pressure he put on himself though with being undefeated.

Thanks for these links. That is sad news. I noted that Gavin Rees, Joe Calzaghe, Gary Locket, Bradley Pryce and Enzo Mac are all still involved in boxing in some shape or form, but wondered if Cleverely is as well. He doesn't seem to be on ifltv interviews etc.

But, I hope he is well and gets the help he needs, if it is needed. Cleverely always struck me as being a good guy. What a stable of fighters Enzo Calzaghe had back in the day.

Underrated? He was very basic, just one style to him.

Seemed at his best in his uni days. As soon as he became a full-time pro he seemed to lose his touch.

good career for sure, won at almost all the levels. excellent conditioning but too easy to hit + a bit lacking in firepower at the highest level

I thought he was quality. High volume. I think what held him back was his defence. He wasn't a huge puncher and his big output always meant he would take some coming back. I always thought if he could have improved his defence he would have had even more success.

I was so pleased for him when he beat Brahmer.

Didn't the Fonfara fight break some compubox record for punches thrown and landed in a fight? He competed with him. He lost. But he was competitive enough for me to think he was at that level.

wins over bellew, brahmer, and murat are decent. the fonfara fight was very competitive

hoppy was also favoured here over kov

and the ward predictions were 70 percent 'ward totally schools him, not close at all'

Kovalev wasn’t really known was he? Especially to UK fan base.

Casuals probably thought he was crap and the hardcores must have really rated Clev.

could be, though weird that hopkins was favoured over him here too.....kov didnt lose a round in either fight

at what point did ppl finally realize he could actually box a bit?

Fully agree, the Fonfara fight was competitive and Cleverly showed a great chin and a huge set og cajones in the fight.

My point was more that Fonfara was no hall of famer myself.

Bellew was like a skeleton at light heavy and Brahmer retired injured.

I didn’t post on that thread for some reason, even though I had tickets to the fight. I honestly don’t remember who I backed, but remember I was never as sold on Kov as many people, always thought he looked a bit fragile. Clearly not fragile enough for Clev though

This jogs my memory now, I distinctly recall my boxrec account being hacked around this time and I was glad the lads at boxrec were able to resolve it for me.
