Undefeated boxer tipped for greatness, 18, dies after tragic sparring session

Undefeated Nigerian boxer Miracle Amaeze, 18, has tragically passed away after being knocked down twice during a spatting session in Lagos less than a month after his last bout

Miracle Amaeze, an undefeated boxer from Nigeria, has died after being knocked down twice in a sparring session.

Amaeze, who performed at light heavyweight, was a rising star in Nigeria, and he boasted an unblemished 2-0 record. However, according to reports, he lost consciousness after being knocked down twice when training in Lagos on Saturday.

The 18-year-old was given first-aid treatment on the scene before he was rushed to a local hospital. However, despite doctors' best efforts, Amaeze was pronounced dead on Saturday evening after arriving at the hospital.

Monarch Promotions said: "With heavy and sorrowful hearts, we are very sad to announce the untimely passing of our Young Champ Miracle Amaeze.

"Although you have gone too soon, your legacy remains in our hearts. May God accept you and keep you till we all meet again. Forever in our hearts Young Champ."

Amaeze held a 2-0 professional record, with both his victories, the latest earlier this month, coming via first-round knockouts.

Amaeze's death comes a month after South African boxer Simiso Buthelezi was filmed punching an 'invisible' opponent after suffering a brain injury midway through a bout.

The chilling footage went viral as Buthelezi was taken to the hospital to assess his injuries. However, Buthelezi tragically passed away in hospital after Michael Benson of talkSPORT provided the heartbreaking update.

Yet another unexpected sporting tragedy.
There's been far too many recently.

It's too late to be of help to Amaeze but a full investigation could help prevent further heartbreaks.

It's the very least that those who regularly push their bodies to the maximum deserve.

Boxing is dangerous enough already.

Any two men can put on boxing gloves and go at it. Any fellow can open up a boxing gym in his garage. When regulators show up people complain about overregulation, corruption and abuse of power. Often the regulations and regulators target those who really aren't an issue. When things get over regulated that's when underground fights that can be even more dangerous get more popular. This is a tough thing to solve or acctually impossible.

One has to sympathize with the fellows loved ones and his community, looks like a decent fellow.

I know quite a few people involved in white collar boxing - I tell them straight that they are mad, many of them are in their 40's had little or no prior experience, and do it as a way to get some glory - but it's downright dangerous. The risk of injury both minor and serious is significant, especially when it's over 40's people who might well have underlying health conditions that haven't been diagnosed.

I think it's bonkers.

Have alot of injuries happened in that white collar stuff?

Don't really know what to say about this, in a way these arguments can be used to discourage anyone and everyone from doing any boxing and they do have their merits, maybe one thing is that you don't grow out of crazy and that people can grow into crazy too.
