CHRISTIAN MBILLI-DEANDRE WARE SET FOR SEPTEMBER 9 IN MONTREAL

News reached The Ring that unbeaten super middleweight Christian Mbilli will face DeAndre Ware over 10 rounds at the Montreal Casino on September 9.

Mbilli-Ware will headline an Eye of the Tiger event which will be broadcast live on punchinggrace.com.

The 27-year-old Mbilli (21-0, 19 knockouts), who is rated No. 5 by The Ring at 168 pounds, was a standout amateur, winning gold medals at the European Youth and European Union Championships. He represented France at the 2016 Olympics, losing at the quarter-final stage to eventual gold medalist Arlen Lopez.

Mbilli moved to Canada where he turned professional in 2017. The all-action boxer-puncher, who sports a 90-percent knockout ratio, has gained valuable experience working under the much-feted Marc Ramsay, and trains alongside unified light heavyweight titleholder Artur Beterbiev and former middleweight titlist David Lemieux.

Mbilli, who was the subject of a New Faces in the August 2021 issue of The Ring, displayed a varied skill set in outpointing tough fringe-contender Ronald Ellis (UD 10) last December. In his most recent outing, he scored a highlight reel one-punch knockout over former two-time light heavyweight title challenger Nadjib Mohammedi (KO 5).

Ware, 34, (15-3-2, 9 KOs) has been a professional since 2014. The Ohio native won his first eight fights before a surprising draw with experienced campaigner Juan Carlos Rojas Sanchez. An accidental headbutt curtailed his next fight with perennial journeyman Rayco Saunders (TD 1).

“The Axeman” got back to winning ways and notably outpointed Enrique Collazo (SD 8). However, he tasted defeat for the first time against Cem Kilic (UD 8). Ware rebounded to upset the previously unbeaten Ronald Ellis (MD 10), but suffered back-to-back loses to Vladimir Shishkin (TKO 8) and Steven Nelson (TKO 6). He has won two fights since.

The aggressive nature of both men is expected to provide a fan-friendly spectacle.

SIMON KEAN-NEWFEL OUATAH HEAVYWEIGHT BOUT ADDED TO MBILLI-WARE CARD ON SEPT. 9

News has reached The Ring that heavyweight Simon Kean will face Newfel Ouatah as chief support to the previously announced Christian Mbilli-DeAndre Ware in a special attraction at the Montreal Casino on September 9.

The super middleweight clash between Mbilli and Ware headlines an Eye of the Tiger event which will be broadcast live on punchinggrace.com.

The 33-year-old Kean (21-1, 20 knockouts) is a two-time Canadian national amateur champion. He represented his country at the 2012 Olympics and produced an upset over Tony Yoka. Kean turned professional in 2015 and only one of his first 15 opponents heard the final bell.

However, in the fall of 2018, Kean came unstuck against Dillon Carman (loss KO 4). Following a comeback win, he gained revenge with a third-round stoppage. “Mr. Grizzly” has won four fights since, including a 10th-round stoppage over former WBO heavyweight titleholder Siarhei Liakhovich.

Ouatah (18-4, 10 KOs) won silver at the 2007 All-African Games and represented Algeria at the 2008 Olympics. He turned pro in 2009. The Frenchman won 12 straight bouts and claimed a national title, but he was stopped by the then-unbeaten Erkan Teper (RTD 6). The 36-year-old Ouatah did find his way back into the win column before retiring at the end of the eighth round against experienced Johann Duhaupas. His other losses came against Junior Fa (TKO 1) and, in his most recent outing, the highly touted Ukrainian Vladyslav Sirenko (KO 4).

Fast rising female fighter Mary Spencer will also appear on the card against an as yet unknown opponent. The 37-year-old is looking to land a world title fight at either welterweight or junior middleweight late this year or early 2023.

Press Release

hristian “Solid” Mbilli (21-0, 19 KOs) is out to dominate the 168-pound weight category and plans on making a statement on September 9 as he fights his way to the top to claim a second title belt.

The Eye of the Tiger protegé will face off against American contender DeAndre Ware (15-3-2, 9 KOs) for the WBC Continental of the Americas belt, crowning the event at the Cabaret du Casino de Montréal, simulcast on the Punching Grace network beginning 7:00 pm.

Ranked at third according in the WBC ranking, Mbilli is enjoying a meteoric and well-deserved rise to the top of the rankings. Last March, Mbilli gave an explosive performance by knocking out Nadjib Mohammedi in the 5th round. This spectacular win laid the groundwork for his defense of the WBC Continental of the Americas title a second time, following his victory by unanimous decision against seasoned Ronald Ellis.

“My strategy is to position myself as the one to beat, the ultimate challenger, in the 168-pound category, and I’m putting in the time at the gym to make sure I’m ready. I don’t care who’s standing in front of me in the ring; I’m giving it my all in my quest for victory, and DeAndre Ware won’t stop me. I’m headed for my glory days and I plan to keep moving forward”, asserts Mbilli.

Although he’s largely flying under the super middleweight radar right now, Ware boasts a well-rounded record that clearly reveals a versatile and strategic boxer who will prove to be a formidable opponent for Mbilli, who, notably, enjoyed a definitive win against Ronald Ellis by majority decision, allowing him to lay claim to the WBC Continental of the Americas and NABA-USA titles.

“We expect Christian to showcase his ability to adapt to any situation but stay focused on the game plan. Ware is a boxer who can force Mbilli to adapt. He proved to be a formidable opponent against Ellis; he’s skillful and fast, and he’s exactly what we’re looking for to challenge Christian on his way to an eventual world championship,” notes Mbilli’s trainer, Marc Ramsay.

The event’s semi-final will feature Simon Kean (21-1, 20 KOs) in his comeback against Shawndell Terence Winters, whom he knocked out in February in the 9th round. To her fans’ delight, Mary Spencer (6-0, 4 KOs) also leaps back into the ring after delivering an unforgettable performance on June 23 by knocking ex-world-champion Chris Namus to the ground three times in quick succession in the first round of a fight that was stopped by the referee. Luis Santana (6-0, 2 KOs), Leïla Beaudoin (6-0, 1 KO), Avery Martin-Duval (7-0-1, 4 KOs) and Christopher Guerrero (3-0) will also take part in the event.

Kean’s opponent just kneeled and raised a fist at the beginning of the fight, refusing to engage and the fight is waved off. Estephan looks pissed.

Christian Mbilli Floors DeAndre Ware Three Times In 2nd Round Knockout Win

Christian Mbilli delivered the statement he sought to make in his latest in-ring performance.

A dominant performance was provided by France’s Mbilli, a 2016 Olympic quarterfinalist and current super middleweight contender who overwhelmed Toledo’s DeAndre Ware. The last of three knockdowns provided an immediate stoppage at 2:20 of round two in their ESPN+ aired main event Friday evening from Montreal Casino in Montreal, Canada.

The bout was suggested to be the toughest test to date for Mbilli. Ware was stopped before but never dominated right out the gate as was the case on Friday. Both boxers looked to establish their power early in the contest, simultaneously throwing left hooks. Mbilli’s was the far more telling blow, sending Ware to the canvas barely a minute into the contest.

Ware beat the count but his night would never get better. Mbilli continued to apply pressure, rocking the American with a right hand near the end of the opening round.

Mbilli mixed up his attack in round two, working the body and then bringing his power shots back upstairs. A left hook to the body froze Ware along the ropes, with a chopping right hand to the temple sending him to the canvas midway through the second round. The 34-year-old trialhorse beat the count but was unable to keep Mbilli at bay.

A final right hand upstairs had Ware back on the canvas, this time prompting referee Alain Villeneuve to halt the contest.

Ware falls to 15-4-2 (9KOs), having now suffered three knockout defeats in his last five starts. A modest two-fight win streak preceded his first fight in Canada and just second overall outside the U.S.

Mbilli sails to 22-0 (20KOs) with the win, his second straight inside the distance and both coming at this location since signing with Camille Estephan’s Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM). The 27-year-old Cameroon-born knockout artist has now stopped seven of his last eight opponents, including four within the past 12 months.

Two regional titles were collected with the win, as Mbilli hopes to advance in the super middleweight rankings.

A title shot could be tough to come by as Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez (57-2-2, 39KOs) owns all four major titles, three of which have established mandatory challengers awaiting a crack at the sport’s biggest box-office attraction. With a new output deal between EOTTM and ESPN+, there is at least a platform for Mbilli to remain active while waiting out a crack at the division’s top prize.

I watched this fight live and I am utterly baffled at why it happend. Looked like some protest with his fist raised in there air Black Panther (the movement not the movie) style.

Mary Spencer was entertaining to watch as she used her opponent for a glorified punching bag.

The fight before that with the 9-2 Argentian El Carnecio (The Butcher) should have gone in the Argentinian's favor, the score was skewed too heavily for the home crowd (go figure) as Duval got rocked in round 3 and hung on there right till the end.
