Why is Sonnys birthdate listed?
Sonny himself never knew what his birthdate, or exactly how old he was. through the years he changed it several times. The general consensus is that he was much older than his most commonly listed choice of birth which i believe was 1932. This would have made him 32 when he lost to Cassius Clay, when everybody says Sonny was pushing 40 or worse by this fight.
My point is his age at death and birthdate should be "unknown" and some clarification as to why offered.
In fact, if you read Nick Toshes underated 'Devil & Sonny Liston', Toshes extensive research reveals Sonny changed his DOB numerous times in the space of ONE yr at one point!!!
There were no birth certificates & negro slave births were not recorded in this period on Sonnys plantation and it is confirmed no records exist of his DOB and his own mother admitted she wasnt sure when it was other than it "seemed like Autumn".
