Good interview by James McD with Tszyu

Post by MightyWarrior »

I've heard it's hard to get decent interview time with Kostya, but looks like he gave you the time of day there - nice one James :TU:

Plus I was just watching the Magee knockdown link that boxingdvduk posted down the page - haven't seen that since the fight, interesting to watch. Looks a real brain rattling right hand there, plus he doesn't see it coming either. Ricky does well to get up and see out the round IMO - though I recall Magee doesn't really step on the gas with a follow up.

Great experience for Ricky that fight: he knows what it's like to be in trouble, so it wont be too much of a shock if he finds himself in trouble in the Tszyu fight.

Like the man said - What Doesn't Kill You Makes You Stronger.

beat me to it. Great interview, really good questions asked and answerd.

Im sure ive read that Tyszu said that he has seen lots of hatton fights, but he says he has only seen the tackie and phillps ones. Maybe Im making it up. But thats really by the hey.

I dont know, but I hope Kostya doesnt fall in love with his power too much, and just hope for a ko, because the more I think about it, the longer it goes, the better Hattons chances are.

Cant wait for this fight.

Great work James, keep it up man.

Thanks mate, I was pretty nervy before speaking to him, so I had half a bottle of wine beforehand. Seemed to do the trick.

At first he sounded half asleep and disinterested, he really warmed up when I mentioned his training regime, and by the end of it It was like having a chat, actually got quite a bit more than that, but managed to delete the recording the next morning, doh! Luckily got a pretty good memory.

You may not be able to tell from that, but Tszyu doesn't really rate Ricky from what I could tell, I don't know that you could say he is taking him lightly, because Tszyu always trains hard, but he went through the motions a bit with the 'earned his way to #1 slot,' but when asked about styles, appeared to be pretty dismissive, to my ears anyway.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest - I've always got the same impression from his interviews. Can't blame him really - in his eyes, it must really look like man against boy.
The guys he has beaten, amateur and pro, just don't compare.

Wishful thinking maybe, but there's a fair chance they could both be in for a shock.

If it goes beyond 6 rounds, Ricky has as good a chance as anyone, provided he hasn't been cut or badly hurt.

I think Ricky has fantastic stamina, one of the hardest working active fighters today, and the pace he brings is electric. Whether that is enough to overcome the technical advantages and power defecit is another matter, but the longer the fight goes, the more chance he has.

Maybe Kostya will get too cocky, who knows.

I would LOVE for Hatton to grow some balls and go through with this fight.

Tszyu knows Hatton is easy prey and I'm sure he expects an early KO.

Lirva - mate, can't work out your logic: Do you want the fight not to happen so you can accuse him of being a chicken or to have the fight and lose so you can gloat he isn't very good?

Never thought about that to be honest. It was a half hour phone call, don't know how much that is to a mobile in Oz.

Im actually a little concerned that Kostya is really starting toover look hatton. He maybe far too confident, he demnolished Mitchell, can see some massive fights on the horizon, and it seems as if he thinks he can steam roll through hatton.

The closer it gets, the more Im inclined to go with the upset. Its a bloody intriuging(sp?) fight.

You're fornicating kidding me right!? Oh my fornicating good lord. I'd hoped to sell the story which would have been fine, but seeing as I haven't earned a brass razoo for it, suddenly I am tinged with regret.

Oh well, I suppose at least now I can phone Kostya on his mobile when I'm drunk....

Ummm... I thought £90 sounded about right.

If you think, using mobiles, half way round the world, £3 a minute is probably about right... could be wrong though.

I doubt he will do that, Tszyu is the consumate professional. And in interviews he has often referred to his loss to Phillips where he overlooked him and wasnt fully focussed, so I really dont see him taking this one lightly.

I think Hatton will do very well to still be in the fight by the halfway point, Tszyu's right hands may have near beheaded him by that point!

yOU SHOULD HAVE GOT AN INTERNATIONAL PHONE CARD OR RANG YOUR (whoops caps) Telephone provider to give you a preferential international rate. Telewest do 2p a miniute to the US on their international package

Zoo may be taking Ricky lightly but if he still trains hard that shouldnt matter.

Actually my BT package does have a special international rate, but I wasn't sure if it covered mobiles, if it does, then all should be jiggy.

I'm sure Kostya can afford the charges better than me.
