Katie Taylor To Face Unbeaten Karen Elizabeth Carabajal On October 29 At OVO Arena Wembley

Katie Taylor will face an unbeaten challenger for her next title defense.

Boxing Scene has confirmed that Argentina’s Karen Elizabeth ‘La Burbuja’ Carabajal will be next in line for Ireland’s Taylor, who puts her undisputed lightweight championship at stake. The bout will headline an October 29 DAZN show from OVO Arena Wembley in London, with the event expected to be confirmed in the coming days.

Carabajal (19-0, 2 Os) will fight outside of her native Argentina for the first time in more than nine years as a pro, while also entering her first career title fight.

The undefeated 32-year-old contender from Buenos Aires primarily campaigns as a junior lightweight but has previously fought at the 135-pound limit. Carabajal enters the fight on the heels of a points win in April, following her lone two career knockout victories which came in a back-to-back fights in 2021.

Taylor (21-0, 6 KOs) will attempt the seventh defense of her undisputed championship and fourteenth overall defense of at least one lightweight title dating back to 2017. In fact, the weigh-in for this upcoming fight will mark the fifth anniversary of her October 2017 WBA lightweight title win over Anahi Esther Sanchez, which took place on the Anthony Joshua-Carlos Takam undercard in Cardiff, Wales.

Taylor has since fully unified the lightweight division, and also enjoyed a one-fight stay at junior welterweight where she claimed the WBO title to become a two-division champ. She enters this title defense on the heels of her split decision win over record-setting, seven-division champion Amanda Serrano in their April 30 blockbuster fight between pound-for-pound stars in front of a sold-out crowd at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Fight of the Year-level battle naturally generated demand for an immediate rematch. Efforts were made to secure such a fight, though the two will go their separate ways for the time being. For Taylor, it means a return to the UK and to the very venue where she made her November 2016 pro debut following her second Olympic tour.

Serrano rematch and the winner of Cameron v McKaskill are the only fights left for Taylor. And ultimately Serrano is a natural Featherweight so might not even be interested now the money is banked.

Not sure what the point of this is as Katie appears to be aging in the ring quite rapidly based on her last few fights and probably doesn't have too long left at the top and I have no doubt that she wants to go out on top.

The only big fights left for her are McCaskill/Cameron winner, Braekhus, Persoon III, Serrano II then arguably Mayer and Yoka-Mossley. There are also others which would be higher profile or more challenging stay busy fights than this such as McCarter, Baumgartner or Choi.

Wouldn't be surprised if Eddie is whispering Cyborg's name in Taylor's ear and this is filling time until then.

You're all missing the marketing here. This is the start of an epic Taylor v the entire Carabajal family battle. After Taylor beats the 19-0(2) Karen Elizabeth Carabajal, the no-doubt-related featherweight Brenda Karen Carabajal https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/692318 will move up two, yes two, divisions to seek revenge for her sister/cousin (can't quite be bothered to google it), After an epic trilogy with each Carabajal sister./cousin, a third Carabajal, the currently 1-0 Laura Victoria https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/1054996 will have strung together a dozen consecutive KOs and will be ready to rumble with Ireland's finest. They will all be cornered by their probably-mother (help me, google), Sandra Fabiana Carabajal https://boxrec.com/en/box-pro/566760. That takes care of Taylor's next seven fights. Not hard, this promoting thing,

No they haven’t. I’m not surprised they’ve got Fisher on this.

I’ve never heard of Taylor’s opponent. I like Gill/Martinez (I can only see a Martinez win) and Agyarko’s opponent has a nice record on paper but I’ve never heard of him either. Hopefully Cully gets a decent opponent.

What is this shit...

Carabajal is 10th out of 140 female lightweights, that puts her in the top 7%... for scale in mens to be about the top 7 % you need to be in the top 150ish...Plus carabajal has never fought outside of argentina....

This is like haveing Gerardo Antonio Perez fight for undisputed.

Also interested in the romford bulls fight, feel like its going to have to be massive if its going to save this card. English title fight vs Nick web or mark bennet or David Adeleye... that kind of massive. doubt its what we will get though.

Katie is popular, but this is a dud fight, and theres the best womens card of all time in london a couple of weeks prior. surely selling 12000+ seats is mission impossible (without the romford bull drumming up a miracle)...

Carabajal has come to fight! Check out the pic in the promotional poster above - she already looks slightly miffed, and that anger will only build by fight time!

Fisher told NoSmoke that they have agreed in principle to fight Christopher Lovejoy.

Not exactly underrated. But he’s 20-1, 20 KOs

Lovejoy clearly has a padded record but with Fisher being 23, 6-0 with only 2 am fights and less than 18 months into his pro career you have to say that's a decent matchup. I guess Lovejoy will bring some power and that's about it but you had established pros trying to face him not too long ago.
