A ‘promotion’ called Fight Club Thailand has been staging some of the more bizarre boxing events - with the latest footage showing wheelchair-bound contestants face off against each other in the ring
A ‘promotion’ called Fight Club Thailand has been staging boxing events - with footage showing wheelchair-bound contestants face off with each other.
The venue is set in Bangkok, and the bouts are thought to be held in an underpass. Indeed, viral video shows two fighters being manned by someone with the use of their handles, throwing jabs and hooks at each other.
The assisted wheelchair boxing event had plenty of members of the audience, all gathered around cheering on the two contestants.
Online users have given their take on the unusual event. One wrote:” When you think you've seen it all, there's always something better.”
Another stated: “At this point I think Thailand is the place to be if you wanna see any type of combat.”
A group named The Adaptive Boxing Organization (ABO) announced its goal to help wheelchair boxing gain popularity and the Paralympics.
Founder Colin Wood said told PassionatePeople: “For us, it’s mainly about helping disabled people to compete at the highest level and that ultimately means the Paralympics.”
“There are differences in terms of the training ethics. There are also quite a few other things that we’ve adapted and made sure we’ve got one hundred percent right for safety purposes.”
In November of last year, Conor McGregor said that he would return to action against impressionist Al Foran in a wheelchair boxing match - but the bout never occurred.
The 33-year-old, who was recovering from a broken leg at the time, was supposed to take part in a wheelchair boxing match against Foran in September - but his doctor advised against it.
And the fight was held off once more in December due to 'time constraints.
Foran tweeted at the time: “Due to time constraints the upcoming charity fight with Conor McGregor has been postponed until March folks, more time for @SirStevoTimothy to put on a show for the ages and more time for me to at least learn the basics of the sweet science.”
