Press Release

Pre-Sale tickets will be available on Tuesday and officially go on-sale on Wednesday, for five-time world champion and boxing superstar Gervonta “Tank” Davis returning to his native DMV area to face undefeated world champion Hector Luis Garcia in a high-stakes showdown on Saturday, January 7 at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., headlining a SHOWTIME PPV in an event presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Pre-sale tickets will be available Tuesday, November 22, from 10:00 a.m. ET to 10:00 p.m. ET through https://www.ticketmaster.com/event/15005D62C82E374 with the code: BOXING

Tickets for the live event go on sale Wednesday, November 23rd, at 10:00 a.m. ET and can be purchased online at ticketmaster.com and capitalonearena.com.

The Baltimore native Davis (27-0, 25 KOs) has established himself as one of boxing’s hottest attractions, capturing five world titles through three divisions, including the WBA Lightweight Title he currently holds. After blasting out the previously unbeaten Rolando Romero with a single punch in May, Davis returns to take on Héctor Luis García needing to pave the way for the recently announced blockbuster clash against unbeaten star Ryan Garcia in the Spring of 2023.

The WBA Super Featherweight World Champion Héctor Luis García (16-0, 10 KOs), who represented the Dominican Republic in the 2016 Olympics, is coming off a spectacular 2022 with two marquee victories. Now training in Las Vegas, García scored one of the biggest upsets of the year in February, when he defeated then-unbeaten Chris Colbert, before capturing the world title with a decisive unanimous decision over incumbent Roger Gutierrez in August.

Good fight for a tune up but how many PPV's do they expect us to buy? They better jazz this up with a solid co main event. :OhYes:

Hector Luis Garcia: Tank Thinks This Is An Easy Fight; Same As Colbert, He's Overlooking Me

“Tank thinks this is an easy fight, but I’m thankful for the opportunity,” Garcia told Boxing Scene. “He has already got the other fight lined up [with Ryan Garcia]. It’s the same as with [Chris] Colbert. He’s overlooking me.”

“I’m looking forward to this fight,” Hector Luis Garcia said. “I know that Tank is at the top. I’ve been really motivated, but it does give me a little extra motivation because I wanna show that I’m the top dog. For sure, I wanna show that I’m the better Garcia. I’m the one that’s gonna be on top.”

“Tank, for sure, is a step above Colbert,” Garcia said. “That’s why I’m even more motivated to beat him.”

Has there ever been a more popular fighter that's more protected than Tank? It's been like 7 or 8 years, and this guy has fought absolutely f*cking NOBODY

It’s a decent fight. I just don’t get why they don’t just go straight for Garcia.

Essentially saying pay $80 for a fight where we’re so confident who’ll win that we’ve signed their next fight already.

I will buy it, Hector Luis Garcia looks to me like he can really fight and may upset Tank, but Tank always has that power, Since everyone is saying it is not PPV Worthy, I hope that puts pressure on them to have a great Undercard

Jaron Ennis-Karen Chukhadzhian Co-Feature For Davis-Garcia PPV Show January 7

Jaron Ennis will take a significant step January 7 toward securing a legitimate welterweight title shot.

Boxing Scene has learned that the talented contender from Philadelphia will fight Ukraine’s Karen Chukhadzhian that night for the IBF interim 147-pound championship. Their 12-round fight will be the co-feature of a Showtime Pay-Per-View telecast that Gervonta Davis and Hector Luis Garcia will headline at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C.

The Ennis-Chukhadzhian contest is expected to be officially announced Monday in Washington as part of a press conference to promote the Davis-Garcia event.

Ennis (29-0, 27 KOs, 1 NC) is ranked number one among the IBF’s welterweight contenders for champion Errol Spence Jr., who owns the WBA and WBC belts as well. Chukhadzhian (21-1, 11 KOs) is ranked fourth by the IBF, but he is the leading available contender to face Ennis because the second spot in the IBF’s rankings is unoccupied and third-rated Vergil Ortiz Jr. is expected to face Eimantas Stanionis next for the unbeaten Lithuanian’s WBA world welterweight title.

The 25-year-old Ennis is a heavy favorite to beat Chukhadzhian. The emerging Ennis obviously would prefer to challenge Spence for his belts, but beating Chukhadzhian for the IBF’s interim title would give Ennis leverage in his pursuit of a fight against Spence (28-0, 22 KOs).

The 32-year-old Spence is expected to face longtime rival Keith Thurman next. Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs, 1 NC), a former WBA/WBC champ from Clearwater, Florida, was named the WBC’s mandatory challenger for Spence at its annual convention last month in Acapulco, Mexico.

Ennis is considered a high-risk, low-reward proposition for the 32-year-old Spence, whose high-profile fight with Terence Crawford fell apart late in October. Ennis isn’t affiliated with Al Haymon’s Premier Boxing Champions, either, which has made it more difficult for his handlers to secure fights against PBC-backed boxers like Spence and Thurman.

In his most recent action, Ennis knocked out previously unbeaten Canadian contender Custio Clayton (19-1-1, 12 KOs) in the second round May 14 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.

The 26-year-old Chukhadzhian, a Kiev native who resides in Germany, has won 20 straight bouts since he lost his second professional fight in April 2015. Chukhadzhian hasn’t beaten a legitimate welterweight contender, however, since his three-round, split-decision defeat to Andrii Velikovskyi in Velikovskyi’s pro debut as part of the “Super 8” junior middleweight tournament in Kiev.

Wow! I am shocked!!

Demetrius Andrade has agreed to fight veteran Demond Nicholson in a 10-round bout

Who would have thought he’d be back on Showtime??

On a PPV undercard.

Showtime officially announce Gervonta Davis vs Hector Garcia on pay-per-view, Jan. 7

Today Showtime Sports officially announced a January 7th pay-per-view bout between Gervonta Davis and Hector Garcia where Davis will defend his secondary WBA title at lightweight, removing any doubt on what’s next on the docket for ‘Tank.’

Davis has reportedly reached a deal to face Ryan Garcia in a catchweight bout, which is really the fight fans have been looking for, but before he gets to that he’ll have to handle business at the top of the year at the Capital One Arena in Washington D.C.

“I’m very excited to be fighting again in the DMV,” said Davis. “I can’t wait to see all my day one supporters, family, friends, and fans come together for a big fight party. My opponent is an Olympian and a world champion who’s proven to the boxing world that he is a tremendous competitor.

“I’m in camp working hard and I’ll be ready on January 7 to make this a statement fight for all my future opponents. Make sure you get your tickets now, because this fight is going to be a sellout for sure! Keep supporting me and I’ll fight for you!”

As for Hector Garcia, he believes this is a real breakout opportunity for him, and says he’ll be looking to seize the opportunity and rise to the occasion.

“I want to thank my whole team, along with Gervonta Davis, for the opportunity to face one of the best fighters in the world,” said Garcia. “This is going to elevate my game and ultimately, it’s going to give the fans an all-time classic that they won’t forget. On January 7, Gervonta Davis and I are going to produce a war that is going to go down as one of the great fights in history and will solidify my name with the greats.”

Gervonta Davis explains Floyd Mayweather split, won’t be returning

However, Davis is in an amicable situation with all concerned, even if the door is not open for a Mayweather return.

“First and foremost, love to Mayweather Promotions and all that they have done for me. But I am definitely out of my contract, for sure,” Davis said on a social media exchange.

“It’s just a test run right now with this. You know what I mean. I’m on my own.

“But much love to Mayweather Promotions, Leonard, Floyd, all the guys. I definitely appreciate them.

“I’m just doing my own thing now. That said, in the future, we can’t work together or anything like that. I’m just trying to put my own pants on,” he added.

When explaining the split, Davis put the problems down to Mayweather looking after his own interests with his exhibition career.

Gervonta Davis wanted help

Mayweather is fighting regularly on the veterans and YouTuber circuits. Therefore, according to Tank, he is neglecting his duties as a promoter.

“Floyd is out [just] doing him. He’s always been like that. Do you know what I mean? I have to focus on what I can focus on,” said the pound-for-pound star.

“He already did what he had to do. I’m not going to lie. If I did what he did in the sport, I’d be the same way. I don’t fault him for staying to himself.

“But it’s also a type of thing like, come back and help too. But much love to Mayweather Promotions. It’s no bad blood.”

Tweets

Concluding on why he put out several tweets asking for a termination letter and seemingly dissing his final few months with Floyd, Davis said: “A lot of people think when I’m tweeting, I’m mad. But I’m just talking.

“I’m tweeting because I’m in camp. I’m angry. If I weren’t in camp, I wouldn’t be tweeting.”
