Valladares-Shigeoka Result Confusion

Post by KSTAT124 »

The result of the January 6, 2023 Daniel Valladares-Ginjiro Shigeoka IBF World mini-flyweight title bout should be "No Decision 3".

Initially, the result was announced as a Technical Draw. Being where the bout took place, had it been a non-title bout or a bout for a Japan Boxing Commission title, that would have been the outcome. However, being that it was an IBF title bout, it was fought under the Association of Boxing Commissions Unified Rules of Boxing's championship rules which state:

"B. Accidental fouls.
1. If an accidental foul causes an injury severe enough for the referee to stop the bout, the
bout will result in a NO DECISION if stopped before four (4) completed rounds. Four
(4) rounds are complete when the bell rings signifying the end of the fourth round.
2. If an accidental foul causes an injury severe enough for the referee to stop the bout
after four (4) rounds have occurred, the bout will result in a TECHNICAL DECISION
awarded to the boxer who is ahead on the score cards at the time the bout is stopped.
a. Partial or incomplete rounds will be scored. If no action has occurred, the round
should be scored as an even round. This is at the discretion of the judges."

So far, the result has been listed by BoxRec as a technical draw (D-TD 3), then as a No Contest (NC-NC 3), then as a No Decision (NC-ND 3), and again as a No Contest (NC-NC 3).

According to the rules under which the bout was fought, the correct result is NC-ND 3.

He first listed the result as a technical draw, changed it to a No Contest, changed it to a No Decision, and then changed it back to a No Contest.

Did the Japan Boxing Commission tell him to make all of those changes?

Joe Koizumi reported that the result was a No Decision:

As I'm sure you know, Mr. Koizumi was inducted into the International Boxing Hall Of Fame as part of the Class of 2008:

Strangely, after listing the result as a technical draw for two weeks, the JBC's website finally has it as a No Contest:
