Either Bugner out-box Mercer on the outside behind his long left jabs, right hands and combinations to take a decision or vice versa for Mercer to outwork Bugner on the inside with good body shots, left hooks and right hands to take a decision.

Thanks for reminding me that Mercer had a decent jab, which I forgot about was one of his weapons to set up the knockout blow.

Bugner might actually nudge it, bloody big-strong boy and pretty resilient. Competent boxer too.
But it feels like a real 50/50......especially with Mercer being happy to get involved and not being unduly bothered about getting nailed by Bugner. He'd press on I suspect.

Assuming both guys fight their best, I lean toward Bugner by decision. But this is a 50%/50% fight.

It's definitely going the entire 12 rounds. Bugner was not only elusive but was a tough man in his own right but I don't know if jabbing on the back foot would be much of a deterrent against Mercer. Larry Holmes did it and Lennox Lewis did as well but no offense they were much better at it than Bugner. I think I might agree with the majority draw that the computer software said. This would definitely be one of those matchups that would need a series to determine an ultimate winner.

I very badly want to go for Joe right now, especially with the sad news circulating that he's in a nursing home.
But I think Mercer gets through with some heavy shots and seals off some key rounds and that not quite enough headline stuff is coming back from Joe which nabs him enough rounds.
There's going to some very close calls in there indeed, Mercer missing wildly, looking clumsy and taking a jab, but also landing the heavier eye-catching stuff as well.
Whether it is 12 or 15, its as tight as a drum.
A draw genuinely feels like a good call.

The type of opponent that Joe will just try to survive with. He'll jab and move and cover. Doesn't like getting hit.
