BOXXER & Sky

Someone put them out of their misery, this is complete and utter dross.
Whatever it is, I certainly won't be watching.
Shalom will be like a kid playing Football Manager. Throwing money around like confetti until it’s all gone. He said in an interview the other day when asked about signing Buatsi that they’ve pretty much maxed their budget out.maverick23 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 04:27 I don’t remember a time when I’ve been less interested in boxing on Sky.
We had the time with loads of promoters where we had pretty a much a show each week and sometimes two. The quality of a lot of the shows was poor but given the volume we still got many good fights.
Then we got the Matchroom stuff where it seemed, for a while at least, that we got a decent arena show every 2 weeks.
Now we get shows more infrequently it seems. Last night’s show was the first on regular Sky Sports this year and only one in the first 12 weeks of the year. And the quality was average too with a main event that really should have been a show opener. I’m not much of a fan of their Okolie card either.
Boxxer/Sky got off to a really good start last year but this year has seemingly gone the other way. Yet they have more fighters in their stable.
I do wonder if they’ve blown their budget on the Olympians and we have to wait before they get to anything resembling a competitive fight.
It was stupid yesterday having a 5 fight card starting at 8pm. 2 of the 4 undercard fights ended early yet we still got a main event starting gone 11pm. I fell asleep after round 7 of the main. Stupid considering how they’d been pushing that they were going to be doing 9pm main events when Boxxer joined Sky.
I do wonder if they miss Adam Smith. I don’t miss him on the comms as I quite like Andy Clarke but it will help to have someone properly organise things internally at Sky and also do more on the quality control.
Yeah and I saw the video of his call with Billy Joe where he said Sky had f’d him and it gave the impression he was talking about money.ashall2 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 04:34Shalom will be like a kid playing Football Manager. Was a picture of him at a show a few months surrounded by female fighters like he was Hugh Hefner or something.JamesPhilips wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 09:52 Let’s not forget Shalom’s obsession with women’s boxing…. The Dubois fight was embarrassing last night.
Yeah I still can't work out where he came from or who is bankrolling him - there must be someone with good connections behind the scenes.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 04:46 i wish that huge thread on checkhookboxing going into detail about shalom's past business ventures and claims was still up lol. made quite the case that he was a total fraud who trickstered his way into this position, will be interesting to see how it works out longer term, you'd think with sky's backing they should be doing better
What did they say? Can I get a quick rundown?margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 04:46 i wish that huge thread on checkhookboxing going into detail about shalom's past business ventures and claims was still up lol. made quite the case that he was a total fraud who trickstered his way into this position, will be interesting to see how it works out longer term, you'd think with sky's backing they should be doing better
By his own words, he was running student nights at Uni and selling fast food, decided he wanted to get into boxing then lands the Sky deal despite having no stable and very limited experience. He did a show or 2 at an ice rink in Altrincham and some Prizefighter-type tournaments then suddenly Sky decide he’s the man for the job. Yeah right.bripez wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 12:37Yeah I still can't work out where he came from or who is bankrolling him - there must be someone with good connections behind the scenes.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 04:46 i wish that huge thread on checkhookboxing going into detail about shalom's past business ventures and claims was still up lol. made quite the case that he was a total fraud who trickstered his way into this position, will be interesting to see how it works out longer term, you'd think with sky's backing they should be doing better
A couple of years ago he had a few 2 bob businesses to do with student nights or something and the week after he is signing deals with Sky - it doesn't add up or make sense.
He looks a slimy weasel as well.
Yeah makes sense.ashall2 wrote: ↑12 Feb 2023, 13:53By his own words, he was running student nights at Uni and selling fast food, decided he wanted to get into boxing then lands the Sky deal despite having no stable and very limited experience. Lots of rumours - rich & powerful Jewish family, took a loan off Kinahan etc. There was an IFL interview (now deleted) where he mentions going to the Middle East and meeting an advisor who was instrumental in getting him into boxing and said that this person was helping advise him.
To be fair, I think the boxing demographic has changed...We care about the likes of Whittaker, Caterall etc... but does the average lay fan? I think Eddie is experiencing something similar as most of his interviews now are about Connor or AJ....what is happening with Campbell Hatton as an example. I think bringing on new fighters to be stars is trickier than it used to be.thenamesnevers wrote: ↑14 Feb 2023, 07:12 Sky and Boxxer have done a terrible job in raising the profile of their fighters. Hearn used to be everywhere with his fighters. Bar Okollie and Riakphore a few weeks ago, where have we seen the likes of Whittaker, Frazier, Dubois, Catterall etc?
They spunked their load on Brook vs Khan and haven't capitalised.
