Frazer Clarke to fight Rydel Booker

Post by funso banjo baby »

This has been announced
Quite on unexpected matchup. Brit Frazer Clarke is just 5-0.
Booker is a durable journeyman, a bit old but fresh off a first round icing of formerly unbeaten Norman Neely.

Clarke will do well to stop Booker. No one else has

Outside possibility that Booker might do a Tony Thompson over here if Clarke isn't focussed?
Norman Neely came into his fight with Booker having fought 12 relatively easy fights and wasn't used to someone coming out fast with big shots.

He’s in his thirties, they need to move him fast. How many rounds is it?

Good fight for Clarke, good learning, he will get rounds and exposure but also it should be a straightforward victory.
He needs to be moved up too.

Learning?
He's fought far better guys in the amateurs. At his age he needs to be fighting DDD or better. It takes ages to get a title shot now. Like years even if your #1 in line.

In a perfect world, yeah, but that fight will make more money in a year or so.

You think so?
OK, I would have thought Frazer has built his name up enough from the Olympics. Well in the UK anyway.

Over 3 rounds in a fencing contest he will have faced much sharper guys.
Over 10 rounds when the heads, elbows and shoulders are close it is a different game.
If Clarke blasts him out quickly, he won't learn much but will be boosted up the ranks, a longer fight will be a good part of his education.

Yeah, maybe you're right. Especially if he looks unconvincing v Booker.

I must be missing something here. Booker has won one in his last 7, he’ll be 42 come fight night and will likely just be wanting to go the distance and will be in journeyman mode like he was in several of his recent fights.

He sole win in recent years against Neely was at a pretty low level.

I get Clarke may want to go rounds but I always think rounds only matter when they’re fought at a decent pace which I don’t see this fight being at.

I remember Haye going the distance against Ismael Abdoul. Post fight him and Booth were saying ‘we’ve proven we can go the distance’ which didn’t mean much as Abdoul came to lose on points and Haye didn’t show much of a work rate. He would have got far more from the Fragomeni fight which finished earlier but was fought at a much higher pace.

I’d much rather Clarke fight Jamie TKV or just someone who is coming to win.

Shalom said fans have been demanding this fight. I’m not sure why.

I think this is exactly the right fight for him. Gives a bit of a benchmark against the other prospects / top 20 fighters that Booker has lost to since 2019. Don't think Booker will be as live as Tony Thompson was against Price, and don't think fans have really been clamouring for this, but it should give Clarke some rounds.

Thompson had only lost to Wladimir in the previous 10 years and still had plenty of ambition. He hadn’t moved to the journeyman phase.

I see this as more like Kevin Johnson against Nathan Gorman. Will likely be a distance fight but doesn’t prove a great deal.

I’d say Franklin Ignatius is more deserving than Jamie TKV.

I’d say Ignatius vv TKV is a really good Southern area title fight.

I’m guessing the 14 years Booker took off from 2004 to 2018 wasn’t because he was in jail? Rare to come back after such a gap and have any opportunities, never mind just being fodder for a plodding prospect.

Caught with enough coke to be done with intent to supply and got a chunky sentence too.

He’s probably very young for his age at least then.

You’d imagine so. I guess some people would age quickly in prison but I can’t see too many people messing with Booker.
