Does video of the FIRST Steve Hamas vs Max Schmeling bout on February 13th, 1934 exist ?? I can find the rematch but not the original.

I have been a collector for 40 years, but I have never seen that fight on any collectors list.

That would be interesting to see. Hamas was an interesting guy. Odd that he seems to be almost forgotton.

Thanks for your reply. I know how to dig pretty deep into records and there's barely a mention of this fight outside of the newspaper articles. Its a shame because it sure sounds like he dominated Schmeling that night.

He came across my radar in newspaper articles from a few months after Frankie Campbell was killed. Evidently FCs handlers Cal Working and Tom Maloney were watching Hamas in the ring. The reporter noted they said they thought he fought just like FC. I watched Hamas in the rematch video with Schmeling, and damned if it wasn't almost like FC leapt off the pages of newspapers, to watch Hamas' distinctive crouch, bob and weave style. Agreed, there were so many incredible fighters of the 1920s-30s, who fought in California, that had a quick rise and fall, and are forgotten except for those who enjoy seeking them out.
