Boxers who fought their trainers.

Post by KOJOE90 »

How many Boxers can you think of that at some point in their career fought their trainer?

'Bad' Bennie Briscoe beat and was later trained by George Benton.
Howard Eastman beat and was later trained by Robert McCracken.

Anymore fight fans? :TU:

Curry must have taught him well then. I can easily see how Curry would conssider that the most humiliating defeat of his career. But then again, at that point he obviously didn't care anymore.
Last I heard, he was doing time for drug offences.

I believe Reggie Johnson and John David Jackson worked briefly with eachother after their fight.

While spending time in jail together for a few weeks, after they were arrested for an illegal prizefight, clever boxer and stiff puncher Joe Choynski trained a still raw Jack Johnson. They sparred and Johnson admitted learning a lot from the clever Californian.

Bernard Hopkins just about sued Bouie Fisher in court, but they came to an agreement outside of it so Bernard dropped the charges.
Lets not forget Roy Jones jr and Roy Jones sr.

Re Jimmy WIlde --

from Gilbert Odd, Boxing News 4/4/69:

"Never had a lesson in his life bar the few in his bedroom from Dai Davies, the father of the girl he was courting. Was married and a father by 1912."

Check his record for the Davies fight

The Dai Davies on Wilde's record (24 May 1913) is Dai "Chips" Davies, a Featherweight from Tylorstown. He was also Jimmy's cousin.

Their bout took place at the Tonypandy Pavilion and Wilde had Jim Driscoll working his corner that night.
