This is an intriguing matchup.

I've always had more respect for Ernie Terrell than do other fans and pundits. I believe he was underrated. A lot written about his 1967 Ali loss is nonsense, IMO. Ernie showed good defense that night.

Another good thing about Terrell was his exceptional height and reach. The guy had a formidable left-jab.

RJJ was vastly more talented than Terrell, no doubt. But Roy was that much smaller than Ernie, six inches shorter, in fact. So I don't know that RJJ's superior ability would give him an advantage over Terrell.

I don't know who to pick.

Terrell from the pre-Ali fight would outjab Jones, who was 7 inches shorter and clinching his way to a decision under the 15 rounder while Jones would have his moments landing speedy punches.

However, if Jones faced the post-Ali fight, then he outbox Terrell with quick jabs and scored with good speedy combinations to take a decision also under the 15 rounder.
