I was surprised by that one.
Re: Max Kellerman laid off by ESPN
He wasn't the only one, they laid off a whole bunch of them.
Re: Max Kellerman laid off by ESPN
Not 100% sure what the logic was, but they laid off the sportscasters on the last day of Q2 and their stock price went up 0.3%. So I'm not sure if they were trying to artificially inflate their quarterly numbers and then re-hire the casters after. If so, then I don't know why they'd do that unless they were trying to spin-off ESPN and sell it, move some Disney stock, or if Bob Iger had a bonus contingent on it. Or maybe those greedy f*cks think they can replace sportscasters with AI.

Max is oryt. I liked him more involved in boxing.
When he was ringside for HBO.
He never had that role at ESPN.
But he has knowledge and talks sense.

Max was on espn2 Friday Night Fights in its early days.
He was in the studio with Brian Kenny.

Re: Max Kellerman laid off by ESPN
He was out of place at ESPN. I wonder if he joins DAZN or something. I never really liked his commentary. Very milquetoast and then he would go full SJW. Dude was further left than Stephen A.

I hope dazn doesn't hire Max.
dazn already has one arrogant commentator who has never put on gloves and stepped in the ring they don't need Max.

That was Ward's final show. I believe he made an announcement during the show.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Jul 2023, 20:09 ward did commentary on last night's espn card, wonder if they hire freelance guys or if his lay off comes into effect after

Re: Max Kellerman and Andre Ward laid off by ESPN
i find ex fighters to be pretty poor at commentary in general tbh, it's not really a surprise considering they spent their lives fighting and not trying to be eloquent
bobby czy and sean o grady were both very good i thought
bj flores perhaps the most eloquent and fluid, though he could be particularly biased i thought
always liked jim watt too though i know he divides opinions
ward and bradley on the espn team have been decent enough
hopkins tried a few times and could barely get his words out, same with wilder

How big is boxing in the US now? Is it as big as it was in the 80's?

Kellerman's tactic of trying to please his employer has finally lead to him being sunk.
Boxing is struggling and no one wants to listen to corporate sycophants.
Once their lucrative pay per view cow has been milked to death some of the big movers and shakers in the sport may finally have to put their heads together and try something new.
Eddie Hearn used to speak about the need for doing things that were good for the future of the game but alas he has not managed it.
If Hearn doesn't find his next AJ soon he himself could get sidelined.
Instead of a concerted effort in providing the fans with the fights they want to see, when they want to see them, the promoters have acted like parasites feasting on the ailing body of a very sick sport.
All of their carefully calculated loss avoidance strategies are the cause of the current malaise.
Boxing is no longer a sport, it's a business. A business that's going to struggle as the Globalists stand off in Ukraine with Russia continues without any suggestions of peace talks.
Perhaps only the emergence of another Dempsey, Ali or Tyson can restore boxing back to health now? Even in the toughest times people need heroes, people need entertainment.

it should be possible though with all the technology available now that the human factor, which sadly is total corruption of every possible official involved could easily be kept to a minimum.
as fairly as possible judged fights!!! however the method!!!
and fornicate off forever with that paid off corrupt assholes 3 deep fuckin' panel in row 1 of corrupted to the core goons called judges, is what we wanna see changed in our favourite sport!
may the better man win!! ffs!!!!
Re: Max Kellerman and Andre Ward laid off by ESPN
Ah thought so, similar here in the UK, massive in the 80's due to terrestrial tv coverage. It's still big here though but mainly in the heavyweight division, they need to bring boxing back to the masses via terrestrial.

you only just realised this?
how old are you? have you been watching boxing all your life before this revelation recently hit you?
on a separate note, don't you ever get tired of basically making the same post, over about 2 or 3 paragraphs, every time you post? i mean as tedious as it is to read, I can only imagine it's even more so to write those repetitive dirges.

Re: Max Kellerman and Andre Ward laid off by ESPN
I think ESPN is just trying to cut costs. I believe they will hire new commentators who will be paid a lot less.

Disney is losing money on everything (movies, toys, etc.) except maybe the parks, but they raised the prices on the park tickets too much and people are deciding not to go.
