poll: was it a low blow

Post by margaret thatcher »

for me it clearly was, entire glove on the shorts and most of it below the belt line. never seen any ref give pre fight instructions that a shot like that is legal

for me also - full glove below the top of the shorts .
That said I think the ref should have warned DD and mad things clearer

I've been saying borderline/fine but there's a better picture than the one here that does look low

The ref put his hand to show where he would call a low blow at the beginning of the fight. DD's entire fist was below that mark.

the shot you have posted has already slid up a bit.

That is closer to the point of impact. clearly low. (althought have been allowed befor).

It's close enough either way I'm fine with the ref's call, and he called it low, so it's low.

DDD & allegedly crying that they were robbed is the worst thing I've seen since David Haye got his little piggy out post-Klitchko.

Those who claim the shot was legal don't understand the rule. It's a foul if you hit below the belt. The belt being an imaginary line from the top of the hips to the navel. This is independent of where the trunks are, though the trunk shouldn't go above this, in pro boxing they usually allow but the referee marks where it is allowed and where not prior to the fight.
Half the glove lands under the belt with the upper part of the glove landing on the belt. The whole glove lands under the navel/top of the hips. Clear low blow.

To clarify: The shot is not on the balls but that doesn't make it a legal blow.

Fwank saying he will apeal.... surely thats a short process.... Fwank crys, then someone from team usyk just shows one of the above frames, and apeal rejected.... done and dusted.

To be fair, what do you expect with the current generation of fans? They're a mix of either football thugs from the council estate who rent a cheap, ill-fitting, peaky blinders style suit to go to the boxing with their orange skinned girlfriend and then start brawling with the opposing fans after doing coke in the toilets (Also the sort who got to Ascot, rent a cheap, ill-fitting checked suit, try to knock Percy's top hat off and get in a ruck with the security while their orange-skinned girlfriend lies in the grass, pissed out her head, knickers wrapped around her ankles and barely aware of where she is) or 18 year old morons who started watching boxing because they like KSI and Jake Paul.

Hit the lower part of the beltline. And the beltline, as always, placed a bit high. Ward hit Kovalev lower.

This reminds me of politics. People will justify anything for who they wanted to win… Mabey I’m doing it (big usyk fan) but I actually have a soft spot for DDD too so wasn’t massively fussed…

I just can not see how anyone can see this not low. The stills show it’s a goooood 3 inches (probably more) low. No idea how you can look at them and think “fair”…

I know some people have been tricking the public putting stills that are 3+ frames too late making it look boarderline, but seeing a clear image of it landing low should overrule these trickery’s.

Ifltv on instagram for example found a frame where it looks almost legal and posted it, it’s clearly actively misleading people when it takes 3 mins to find or screen shot the correct frame/frames where it lands from a good angle.
…Add in Umar interviewing frank was just strait up saying DDD should be champ… it’s just a circle jerk.

Scary thing is with commentators and how social media can be twisted many many casuals think DDD should be champ (and some genuine fans too), it’s a shame for boxing, downright scary to think about how the same structure works in politics.

agree - we can see it right there. entire fist is below the beltline. since when is punching below the belt line legal?

also seen lotta people mention kov-ward, as if one guy getting away with blatant low blows in another fight somehow makes dub's shot legal. not sure how that works

Entire fist is below the beltline of the trunks, which are placed a bit high.

theyre really not that high, and anyway, when a fighter does have high trunks that's when the ref says the belt line is okay. i have never seen a ref say a fighter can hit the other below the belt, which dub clearly did

Exactly,

And, let's be honest---Ward always had the judges and the ref on his side. Remember the blatant headbutts against Kessler? He could do whatever he liked and get away with it.

It's ridiculous to measure what exact part of the glove hit the belt and what went lower. All that sh1t points directly at the fact, that the punch wasn't critical at all.

the entire fist was below the belt lol, doesnt need measurements, it's obvious just looking

ya it wasnt critical, ref rightly called it a foul and usyk continued boxing his head off

a lotta them are just being willfully ignorant, and some probably wrongfully believe it's only a low blow if you hit the guy directly under the balls

The comments on that Twitter thread prove my point. Most people watching boxing nowadays don't know shit about the sport.

More at home standing around with their shirts off, a pint in one hand, a fag in the other chanting "eng-ur-lund, eng-ur-lund, eng-ur-land" at someone wearing a Burkha and singing "10 German Bombers" despite the fact England are playing Moldova.

Definitely a low blow.Dubois threw a few low blows and caught Uysk on the fight at one point as well.

The comments on twitter are hilarious. Everyone saying he was robbed. Barring that shot he done fck all. He lost everyone round and quit on his knee. He’d have been a bigger flash in the pan than Buster Douglas had he won.

Reading through Twitter I think the people saying it was defiantly not a low blow come under three categories: (1) believe whatever the commentators tell them (2) Wanted Dubois to win so bad that they'll cling onto anything (3) don't understand the low blow rule thinking that either the entire glove has to below the belt line or that it has to actually hit the crown jewels.
