McCaskill v Ryan
McCaskill v Ryan
Haven't seen any threads on this forum about the McCaskill-Ryan fight at the weekend. Reports indicate the draw was very generous to McCaskill, but I'd be interested to hear from anyone who watched the fight, as I didn't. Sounds like Ryan was gracious, through gritted teeth, about the result, perhaps more with an eye on a rematch than anything else. How did you score it?

Ryan-McCaskill Scorecards

Re: McCaskill v Ryan
Put simply Ryan was robbed , early doors Ryan looked good boxed quite well but was silly sill silly ,, what i mean by that is , Ryan would outbox her , better jab , better body shots and combo's just simply outbox her , BUT AND THERES ALWAYS A BUT , then she was stand there stop still and let Mccaskil swing widly at her , now a lot of these wild swinging punches would be took on her arms or blocked , BUT a lot would land ,
Ryan made it look hard , and i can see why some could have given rnds to Maccaskil , especielly if you favored her then someone could easely say naaw took on the arms especielly if you favored Ryan , My missis who's actually not a bad judge favored Maccaskil in a few rnds , saying the english firls not having her own way , which was true ,
BUT that was the early rnds from around rnd 6 onwards Ryan took over boxed a lot better and tightened up her defence , how one judge had 97-93 Maccaskil is beyond me .
Think the crowd reaction at the end said it all they bood the place down

Re: McCaskill v Ryan
Good post. I think Ryan would benefit from moving more instead of just gloves up and trying to ride the shots. Another serious thing lacking is counter punching. McCaskill was asking for counters. The only reason McCaskill was able to have good optics with her flurrying was that she had no fear of being countered. I really think if Sandy had just a decent countering game it would have made that fight look super super clear because McCaskill was losing the fight everywhere except those flurries and as you say a lot wasn't landing. Ok some shots were getting through but again, Sandy has this mentality of "OK, I went, now you go and I'll cover up/defend". And yes I'm going to call out Clifton Mitchell here. That's poor training. Get her to fire the right hand in counter and fall in/clinch or duck under and exit. In fairness he's done a good job to take her this far but I think we are seeing the levels of a trainer exposed when it comes to things like that.coneye wrote: ↑25 Sep 2023, 06:06 Put simply Ryan was robbed , early doors Ryan looked good boxed quite well but was silly sill silly ,, what i mean by that is , Ryan would outbox her , better jab , better body shots and combo's just simply outbox her , BUT AND THERES ALWAYS A BUT , then she was stand there stop still and let Mccaskil swing widly at her , now a lot of these wild swinging punches would be took on her arms or blocked , BUT a lot would land ,

Maybe I'm being harsh, since she deserved the decision and at the end of the day, it's womens boxing, you're not going to see much good counter punching in the womens game. The talent level is just lower than the mens. Sorry but thats the way it is. Katie Taylor would be seen as the best "boxer" and for my money she was the female version of Amir Khan and a poor one at that.

Nail on the head , Just simple movement and parry would off set up nice counters for long clean punches , Maccaskill was'nt actually a good boxer , just come forward in the Zone and started swinging
Sandy just seemed to walk up throw 4-5 , 6 good shots , Cover and take the return hoepfully on the arms , but 10 returns came and 4 or so would land , made it very close . early doors

Re: McCaskill v Ryan
She was definitely robbed but long term this may be good for her as there won’t be a hell of a lot of bigger paydays for her and McKaskill in a rematch probably makes more money than a lot of the other fights at Welterweight. Looking at it there will be Jonas, Mayer (both probably unlikely due to promo differences) and then Terri Harper who I think they’ve said a few times is from Denaby. Who else is there for bigger money? I doubt Lauren Price brings much money with her.

97-93 good IJL/Oconnor scorecard there

Different judge but Having Benn winning 96-94 was pretty moronic as well.

I put that down to Benn going on the defence a little.jameswilson wrote: ↑25 Sep 2023, 09:47 Different judge but Having Benn winning 96-94 was pretty moronic as well.

Having bet on Ryan to win on pts, I'm gutted on her behalf.
