Ray Mercer vs. Andrew Golota

Post by scorpio83 »

12 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

At their best, Mercer would be "Merciless" toward Golota by outworking him behind his jabs and body punches to either take a decision or knocking the big Pole out in 10 rounds. What do you guys think and who do you got?

I remember back in 1997, when people were talking about the possibility of this bout occurring. Too bad it didn't happen. IMO the pair were evenly matched, and the winner would have been whichever was having the better night.

Assuming both fight their best, then it could go either way. If Mercer wins, it would be by close decision or a late rounds stoppage. Should the Foul Pole take it, it would be on points.

This fight is tough to call because both were notoriously inconsistent in the quality of their performances.

Good assessment. Definitely could go either way. Both of these fellows were pretty erratic from bout to bout.

I feel like Mercer would be durable enough, and dangerous enough to make Golota resort to desperate tactics which would either get him DQ'd or cause him to quit possibly.

Golota at his best could outbox Mercer, but could he keep his composure for the duration of the bout?

If it's a 10 rounder, maybe. If it's a 12 rounder I think that favors Mercer.

I'd honestly favor Mercer in either case, but Golota has a better chance in a 10 rounder.

Mercer would make Golota quit.
