Where is Jack Massey?

Post by wrighty »

Any news on what's happening with him? He seemed to be making some headway at cruiser, went up to heavy, had the fight with Parker then nothing! I thought he was a good watch. If I'm right, he beat CBS in the ABA finals years ago too

Seems weird dosent it. Hate to guess and to be clear I have zero real reason to believe this but… scilent drug ban/appeal/situation kinda makes sense. Moving up, big leagues so lots of testing, ect.

His status went up 10x after being competitive with Parker… then nothing. Just can’t see why he wouldn’t have kept the ball rolling otherwise..

He’s asking for fights on twitter tagging promoters in & is sparring Masternak in Poland so I think he’s ready & available.

The Parker fight probably did him more harm than good. Not easy to look good against & he’s not a ticket seller.

I only heard one side of it but I think leaving Hobson wasn't a great idea. He could have got some regular defences of his title in until something was ordered. I hope he comes back as he was genuinely good

I always thought it was odd to drop the IBO title. He won't win anything of note at HW i don't think so I thought it confusing that he'd stepped up to HW. He had a knack (or his promoters did) of him winning random titles at Cruiser, 5 so far in only 20-odd fights. He's only been out the ring 10 months so it might be injuries or promotional issues.

I believe one or more potential opponents were offered the chance to face him on the December 10th Boxxer card.

Several fighters managed/trained by Joe Gallagher tend to be inactive. He seems pretty good at rubbing people up the wrong way.

He ran Riakporhe close and won in my view, signed with allegedly and stunk the place out vs Mohammad Ali Bayat
Farid, the relationship ended afterwards.

He was on a good run with Dennis Hobson who was doing well for him, but sacked him off to go the distance with Parker, thinking it would do him favours promotionally, clearly didn't.

Who wants to be in the Jack Massey business? Not many it seems.

I remember Hobson talking on Porkys Corner that he was pursuing it legally so that might be part of it, I've not watched Porkys Corner for a while though so do not know if he's updated on it further.

massey was out 3 times in 9 months with hobson + got the ibo, which is minor but still something for a guy who never even had an area title. activity wise sure better than the subsequent 1 fight in 2.5 years and ebegging for fights.

wonder how much he made vs parker compared to his hobson fights

Just checked mate, nothing. My daughter had left a present in the toilet but no Massey.

It was messy though.

I love it when you find serious fans in real life
Years ago I was doing agency work with this young lad and I mentioned I liked boxing, and was expecting the prime Mike Tyson talk. We spent an hour talking about Dean Francis and the Ryan Rhodes Jamie Moore fight. I think we even talked about John Fewkes lol

He was a good ticket seller back in the day. I watched him a couple of times in Buxton.
Not sure how well he does now tho.

Back on the Mayer v Jonas card.

Boxrec says it's a 6 rounder and it will be disapointing if that's the case.
