What do you think of Canelo vs Benavidez

Post by ace_bubble »

What I saw from Benavidez vs Andrade was that, until that punch in round 4, Andrade was giving all sorts of trouble to Benavidez and even winning the bout.

I think when it comes to Canelo vs Benavidez, Canelo is far more skillful than Andrade, hits lot harder and has a granite chin.
The type of shot which put down Andrade would only roll over Canelo.

I think Benavidez would not not be able to hurt Canelo and when it comes to pure boxing he is not skillful enough to fight off Canelo and win rounds. You need someone as skillful as Bivol to keep Canelo bay.

Benavidez will not be able to keep Canelo at distance for long and soon Canelo would find his mark. Benavidez does get hit and I am really not sure how strong his chin is.

I doubt Canelo will see anything new with Benavidez and it will mostly be unanimous decision or late rounds stoppage for Canelo.

Let me know what you guys think.

I only gave Andrade the 2nd. Unsure what you guys saw, but his combos were hitting Benavidez's gloves. Benavidez landed the much crisper power shots throughout. The 2nd is the only part where I think Bemavidez had trouble but only because Andrade did something unexpected. Andrade is not known to walk dudes down, so I think that just befuddled Benavidez.

Benavidez is so big and awkward. If Canelo can't hurt him, there is no way Canelo can match Benavidez's pace.

Canelo is the superior technician, and quite possibly superior in all areas. On the other hand, Benavidez is a young and improving fighter. With all this in mind, does this mean they shouldn’t fight? No. They are the top of the division. They should fight. I’m sure Benavidez would benefit from the experience, win, lose or draw.

The only two fights that Canelo should be pushing for is Benavidez. On cinco de mayo, what more could you ask for?

Knowing Canelo, he'll probably be more interested in Bivol or Charlo. There's issues with Bivol because they can't agree on which weight to put it at and the fans don't want to see Canelo get shut out again at LHW while possibly getting in the way of a LHW unification. Nobody cares about Charlo at the moment.

Canelo v Benavidez is the obvious fight at 168. Nothing else will do.

It should be demanded.

Yes it needs to happen. No excuses only fight I would accept besides Benevidas would be Rematch with Bivol. It is all that makes sense for Canelo.

I guess now we know why Andrade was being ducked by everyone in the entire sport across multiple divisions for a whole decade. That guy is an absolute killer, as evidenced by his uh... dominant victory over Benavidez?? Good thing I took his grandiose claims of being avoided at face value. Boxers should never be forced to prove how good they are in the ring. However good they say they are, that's how good they are, case closed.

It’s a great fight and needs to be made.

I think it mainly comes down to whether Benavidez can take Canelo’s counters, Canelo hits far harder and more accurately than Andrade and Benavidez seems fairly easy to land on.

The other big factor is age and workrate. Benavidez is 7 years younger than Canelo and has a far superior work rate, it may be that Canelo is simply too old and slightly shopworn to keep up with Benavidez over 12 rounds.

It’s a fight that I want to see.

I don't expect this fight to happen in May.
September is more likely.

Fans demanding a fight just means the promoters know they can "let it marinate" a little longer.
Have some negotiations that magically find a way to fall out, keep the fans talking about it until the fight is as big as it can get then they'll do it.

Hey now he almost could have beaten Benavidez if he hadnt gotten the absolute crap beaten out of him, it was competitive for part of the second round!
Seriously though, he has some skill obviously, but it's messed up that a fighter can just not face much of anyone while having belts in two divisions and just say he's avoided when he's the one pulling out of potential fights anyway. He didn't get to 35 with a resume looking like his without a little artful dodging of his own going on.

Minor problem, though, is Alvarez cleaned out the division 2 years ago, and now Alvarez / Benavidez are cleaning out the scraps. Alvarez even rematched the top guy at 160 and dominated the top guy at 154, and Benavidez beat one of Saul's leftovers and another middleweight. The division is a barren wasteland now and pretty hard to let this fight marinade any longer unless they fight Munguia, Mbilli, or Jermall -- i.e. one marginally proven newcomer and 2 more middleweights.

As you said, that's a minor problem.
Minor problem = not a real problem.
If fans are demanding a fight the only way it is hard to let it marinate is if one fighter is ready to retire and is rich enough to mean it.

I feel like it's the best and most interesting fight available for either of them right now and I hope it happens.

Canelo may wish he did this fight a couple years ago… currently canelo is still the favourite, but canelo is on the decline and benevedez is on the rise… benevidez also has some big fight experence now..

Canelo should fight him in may. Wait much longer and that tables start turning.

What else can canelo do?

- Bivol rematch? (Why not wait till those belts go undisputed and challenge for 175 undisputed…)
-big bro Charlo
-Crawford
-badu jack for a cruiser weight title.
-mung

They are the only real options I see right now. And seeing as canelo fought someone out of his weightclass last fight I think benevidez is clearly the best option.

I suspect Big Bro Charlo is next for Canelo and I hope I'm wrong.

It could be Munguia according to Paulie Malignaggi. :maybe: Someone else was saying after the fight that the longer Canelo puts it off, the worse it will be for him. Does he want to fight him now at 168 lbs or later at 175? :o .

The only way to beat Alvarez is to box him in an ultra disciplined way.

I am not sure that Benavidez can do that.

He is the bigger guy and he does love a scrap.

He will almost certainly try to put it on Canelo and that will be his downfall.

Imo Canelo would counter and beat Bena to the punch. Its a difference in skills, speed, experience and power between Bena and Canelo in the favor of Canelo. Thats the truth.

The fight needs to happen on cinco de mayo 2024.

Great fight. Think it will go the same way as Canelo v Bivol though. Benavidez will break him down

I feel Benavidez is too big, too young, too tough for this version of Canelo. If Canelo isn't able to keep Benavidez off of him or hurt him with sharp counters, all I see is a long painful night for Canelo.

I might be in the minority, but I'd rather Canelo just spend the rest of his career fighting no hopers (he has nothing else to prove) and Benavidez to move up to 175 and mix it up with guys that are actually his size.
