Team Europe V Team USA
I was wondering what the current USA team is like at the moment, with some of them gone to the Pro ranks after the Olympics.
With the Worlds coming up soon how would they compare to the best that Europe has to offer?

Sergey Kazakov (RUS)
Fly-weight (51kg)
Jerome Thomas (FRA)
Bantam weight (54kg)
Detelin Dalakiev (BUL)
Feather weight (57kg)
Aleksey Tishenko (RUS)
Light-weight (60kg)
Domenico Valentino (ITA)
Light-welter weight (64kg)
Alexander Maletin (RUS)
Welter weight (69kg)
Oleg Saitov (RUS)
Middle weight (75kg)
Gaidarbek Gaidarbekov (RUS)
Light-heavy weight (81kg)
Magomed Aripgadzhiev (BLR)
Heavy weight (91kg)
Alexander Alexeev (RUS)
Super-heavy weight (+91kg)
Alexander Povetkin (RUS)
Many thanks

The teams i were thinking were going to be in the World Championship.
Ward has gone Pro i think!
If i was going to take Detelin Dalakiev out i would replace him with Gennady Kovalyov (RUS) not Mamedov
Marian Simion (ROM) in before Oleg Mashkin (UKR) at middleweight!
Viktor Polaykov
I can think of lots of boxers better,
Oleg Saitov (RUS)
Bulent Ulusoy (TUR)
Spas Genov (BUL)
Xavier Noel (FRA)
Vilmos Balog (HUN)
If Alexander Maletin was out Gyula Kate (HUN) would be number 1 before Boris Georgiev
Khan wont be around.
Stilianov do you mean Dimitar the Bulgarian? he fights now at Light-welter weight (64kg)
Who is Gusseinov?
In the last year Valentino has done alot more and i think is the better boxer than Khrachev
I just want to know what the USA team is at the moment has it seems to have gone quiet with no talk of future stars. Some big tournys coming up soon!
Domenico Valentino (ITA)
Q/ Olympics

Winner/ European Union Countries Championship (ESP)
Final/ Gee Bee in Helzinki (FIN)
Winner/ World Military Games In Ford Huachuca (USA)
Winner/ Algirdas Socicas in Kaunas (LTU)
Final/ Lemesia cup in Limassol (CYP)
Winner/ Karl Leman in Talin (EST)
Murat Khrachev (RUS)
Semi/ Olympics
Winner/ Chowdhry cup” in Baku (AZE)
Winner/ Copenhagen box cup in Copenhagen (DEN)

Rovshan Gosseinov (60 kg from Azerbaijan) announced his retirement after Olympics. He was R/J at last Azerbaijan championships earlier this year. Saitov also announced that is finished with boxing thanks to his age. Shtilianov fights at 64 kg in Strandja cup and will stay there. Right now he suffered very bad illness an is out from the team for at least 1-2 months, so will not participate in Gee Bee and Halle events.ABA Boxing wrote:The teams i were thinking were going to be in the World Championship.

I just meant that if the US olympic team hardly would have won any matches against the top european in their weight I don’t think their new internationally inexperienced team has a chance. It has been that way after every olympics for the US, and it gets worse and worse. Before they had some talented 17-18 year old kids who could strike gold internationally. That doesn’t seem posible today.
Have you actually seen Valentino fight? Boxing isn’t just about numbers. IMO Valentino is a good boxer but not one you get excited about.
He’s just a former European champion and World Cup champion.ABA Boxing wrote:Who is Gusseinov?

There are some big tournaments coming up & the Euro fighters i said will be fighting, IMO they are the best Europe has to offer and they are active.
What will the US have to offer, if they have nothing good then US boxing will be in trouble in a few years!
Its about time Europe takes all the Number 1 spots!

Gaidarbekov is retired. He made his announcement after the Games. Maletin has the time to fight in another Olympics, cos he will be 33 during Beijing Games. Gaidarbekov is even younger then Maletin. He is born in late 1976, but made his dessicion.Ulysses wrote:Am I wrong in thinking that Maletin and Gaiderbekov have joined Saitov (as Ogii says) in retirement?ABA Boxing wrote:Its about time Europe takes all the Number 1 spots!
The other guys in the team are very young, excluding captain Evgeny Makarenko and Sergey Kazakov, who are 29
Cheers, ogii. Do you think Maletin will box again?ogii3 wrote:Gaidarbekov is retired. He made his announcement after the Games. Yes, i am sure he will fight. I think Alexander Lebziak will schedule him to got to some of April/May tournaments in Europe. There are 10 strong events in mentioned two months so in some of them i am sure we will see Maletin. I hope that he will find place in Russian team for World cup in Moscow, which was rescheduled for 10-18 July.

LOL yes there are still the Cubans and the Rusians, but if USA Amateur boxing is in trouble you have to fear that it will affect the Pro Champions over the next 5 to 10 years coming out of the US.locoxelbox wrote:The downfall of US amateur boxing has already begun. Andre Ward saved them in Athens, but for how long?
ALL the No1 spots to europe??...that would be bad for amateur boxing...Thank god the cubans still beat'em up
All the World champions will be European and maybe a few South Americans, i fear still no English!

I think it has affected the US pros as well. Just look at the heavyweights. When was the last time the US produced a decent heavy/super heavy? Riddick Bowe and Ray Mercer at the 1988 Olympics, that's almost 20 years ago.
Regarding the new US team: Michael Evans who lost to Amir Khan became champion.
Raushee Warren is up at 51. I expect him to be a top name in short time.
The only other one's I have seen are Karl Dargan and Mike Wilson, weren't impressed by them when I saw them, but then it was some time ago.
