Fury vs Usyk Poll, method of victory

Post by ALI »

Yes yes, there's another poll on this already running, but its older than half the forums members and has about a half million posts, and nobody is really posting on it anymore. I cant be doing with it at all. There's no need to merge every thread into one. This is the biggest heavyweight unification fight in years and needs a fresh take on here. A lot has changed recently and the fight is only a few weeks away. This current poll allows for fresh votes and a fresh discussion, and i'm interested not only to know who you think will win, but the method of victory. Could be quite telling, maybe? Lets see.

Vote away, and hopefully this post does not get merged into that other collosus of a thread.

I'm struggling to vision how this fight will play out. I'm leaning slightly towards Usyk schooling him, but i can also see Fury keeping it at a distance with his jab and footwork and sneaking it on points. A knockout is quite unlikely here, me thinks?

Your take?

I keep hearing people saying this. Why are you scepticle, and what do you think is going to happen, Fury to pull out faking an injury?

I'm pretty certain it happens, all looks very solid to me.

* no option available for my prediction.

Fury will get himself disqualified if/when he is at risk of being humiliated.

I think its unlikely, but not out of the equation. Fury has been knocked down 7 times as a pro, and several were heavy knock downs. Pajkic and Cunningham both put him down heavily and they were not noted punchers. Wilder had him down several times. Then the novice Ngannou. He showed his heart to get up each time and win, but clearly he can be hurt and put down. He has never faced a boxer with the movement, punch variety/accuracy/output of Usyk, and Usyk can go all 12 rounds at a pace. Its an intreaguing fight, i can see Fury being completely outboxed, and i can also see Fury roughing up Usyk and grinding out a win.

I’ve got no facts to back up my opinion. I really want this fight to happen, so maybe I’m just thinking it won’t so I’m not disappointed

I'm the only one who has voted for a Fury win

Me thinks lot of hearts ruling heads hear.

I'm hoping the bookies will be similar, Fury will be like a 25-1 shot

You're only as good as your last fight, springs to mind. For the first time, I actually favor AJ to beat Fury. It's nothing to do with my head and heart. If you gave me a million pounds and told me I had to bet it on Fury or Usyk, I'd put it on Usyk.

The main reason I don't see Usyk winning by KO, is that he simply will not try to.

I think these recent fights reinforce the point that the only way to know people will fare against each other rather than listening to people telling everyone how good they are.

A lot of people felt that Wallin would be a tricky fight for Joshua because he had given Fury trouble; and as Fury kept on telling everyone, he was loads better than Joshua, it would automatically mean that AJ would have a rough time of it.

Similarly, Fury told everyone that the only person who could beat Wilder was him.

End result Parker utterly schooled Wilder who looked the same as he always does, and Joshua dominated Wallin.

Equally, a lot of people felt that Parker would beat Joyce or that Joyce vs Zhang would be competitive.

Even if Fury gets beat by Uysk, it would still be good to see him and Joshua face off this year to see how they match up.

They say there’s a rematch clause in the contract for the Fury-Usyk fight, and the Saudi's want the rematch.
I can't believe Fury (Usyk) will fight three times in 2024.

I am with you on this one, I think Fury is going to be highly motivated for this one - I don't know why - I just have a hunch he will do it on points - if it goes ahead that is, chances are it won't.

I expect the contest to take place however like many, I won't be shocked if Fury becomes injured in such a way that means he has to retire.
Assuming that it goes ahead I think that Usyk will make Fury think that he is surrounded and box to an enormously wide decision win.
I expect Fury to hit low given his quality as a human being and the posts he made following Usyk v Dubois in a quiet opening 2 or 3 rounds at which point Usyk starts to up the pace leaving Fury unable to launch much of a positive attack whilst being peppered with shots from every angle.
Following the contest Fury declines to have a rematch (depending on the wording of the contract and assuming that he is able) and as time goes on his ridiculous rants and bizarre internet supporters slowly lose volume with each analysis of his career.
Usyk retires having achieved everything that he has ever wanted to in boxing, possibly following Vitali into Ukrainian politics and the belts are split.
Joshua wins the IBF, Zhang is elevated to WBO champion, Bakoli beats Dubois for the WBA and Parker picks up the WBC with the IBO slotted in to one of those contests somewhere.

Seems very plausible
As others have said before, the referee will decide who wins this because Fury will be intending to use every dirty trick and foul he knows. If the referee turns a blind eye then Fury will win ugly - if the referee pulls Fury up on it and starts giving warnings then Fury will get himself disqualified.

Only those predicting a Fury win would be doing so with their hearts. Usyk is the one who has fought better opponents to prepare for this fight - plus Fury looked terrible in his last fight.

Its a great poll, very good work.

I think after Fury's last fight, Uysk stops him late, mostly from Fury's exhaustion. Extra weight + years of age.
If you asked me before Fury's last fight I would have said Usyk points fairly wide.

Whoah!
That's pretty in depth.
I can definitely see Fury claiming an injury prior, he has form on bottling it.
Also, and something you didn't touch on, is Fury has form for banned substances. Will the wake up call from his last fight encourage him to cut corners? Maybe just to help shed weight, but possibly for stamina too.

I think it's impossible to have a strong opinion until the weigh-in

If Fury has got himself in real shape, some proper sparring then it's close.

Of course if he hasn't it will be a dirty fight that he loses on points.
