HOWARD RAINEY 1944-2024

Post by nobleart1978 »

I was saddened to read that the trainer, Howard Rainey, who was based firstly in south London and then in Sheffield has passed away.

I remember him doing a feature about trainers and their methods on Sky with Spencer Oliver. He was also known for being in the book "Looking for a fight" by David Mathews, in which Rainey trained Mathews (who had never boxed before) for a pro fight in 1999.

RIP Howard.

That's a sad bit of news. He was meant to be a very engaging and knowledgeable guy. I think he trained Clinton Woods for a while, too.

RIP Howard Rainey

RIP.

I am sure I remember something about him wanting to write a book. Did he ever get that finished? Also, wasn't there something about him designing some ground breaking treadmill or something?

i think he invented that device when you run with a small open parachute attached to the back of your belt. Im not sure if he patented it or properly marketed it.

I know i am late on this but I feel compelled to write my tribute on the GREAT Howard Rainey …

I knew Howard for 20+ years, my first impression of him was that he was completely and utterly nuts. But very quickly established he was completely besotted by boxing and deeply cared about all those involved in the sport.

Over the years I really cared about Howard as he did me. When he learned that I went through a tremendously rough time with accepting I had Parkinson’s Howard used to phone me advising me on the future.

I loved Howard to bits and boxing is a lot Poorer without him.

Rest Easy Howard.
