Obelmajias said he retired at the age of 39 because in the relationship he was in, she did not want him to keep on boxing anymore. But it had nothing to do with some "Venezuelan law" that Obelmejias himself claims he's never heard of.
I don't even know if such a law exists for profesional Boxers in Venezuela. Because Venezuelan Ildemar Paisan fought till the age of 45 & some of his fights after the age of 40 were in Venezuela. And Venezuelan Boxer Ismael Barroso is past the age of 40 and still fighting. Just this month(on Juanuary 6, 2024) he scored a stoppage of Ohara Davies.
If I'm not mistaken, in Venezuela there was or maybe still is a law where amateur Boxers can't fight once they reach the age of 40. But that does not apply to profesional Boxers.
So maybe someone in charge should think about changing that in Fulgencio Obelmejias history.
