Anthony Yarde 25-3 ... Where next ?

Post by Evander »

Picked apart Nikolic easily.
Not sure what the pigtails were all about.
What do you think of him ?

Fights Kovalev in Russia.
Fights Beterbiev in England.

I'm not sure he's tested ;-)

what would you rate as his top 5 wins?

i think he's good but faces too many tomato cans. maybe he couldve done better vs kov and bert and the first arthur fight if he hadnt had so many leisurely beat down wins over roadsweepers. struggles to get wins in two way fights..

Last five.

If you go to Russia and box Kovalev and come back to the UK to fight Beterbiev it's you who are behind if you don't recognize its worth :maybe:

i mean yarde is from the uk so not sure why the location there makes it more of a test? if that's what youre suggesting

of course bert and kov are tough opponents, but when 95 percent of your wins are over cans you'lll never be prepared to the max to win at the highest level. yarde has lost to every opponent who has given him a fight. for every opponent he's had to step beyond that usual leisurely pace he's lost. that's why i think having more fights vs 2nd tier opposition, not necessarily elite guys but still handy opposition, would have helped. guys like craig richards, marcus browne.

who are his best wins over ? it's a very shallow list and it highlights his lack of prep for those fights he lost. ask yourself - is nikolic good prep for a top opponent?

Yard vs buatsi is clearly still the fight.... but thats likely another loss and probs worth waiting till belts fracture now sadly.

Kinda feel yarde needs to fight that b levle, plenty of interesting winnable fights for him out there... just needs to take them.

I'd love to see Buatsi, fair play to them if they can make that. Promotionally I can't see TNT or Sky wanting their guy to fight on the other platform.

Most likely ... he goes on the 5v5. People seem to be saying Callum Smith but not sure he'll return that quickly. Most likely Craig Richards imo.

Frank was taking about how he could become mandatory again soon.

Guys never won the British, Commonwealth, European belts.

Went straight for the WBO Euro strap and got himself into a mandatory position fighting bin men.

Probably another one or two tomato cans, then maybe another push for a vacant belt or something.

The guy is obviously talented but as has been said, he needs to step it up a bit, not elite but there are some decent, domestic LH's around. I would expect him to beat most of them and would be good experience.

If Lerrone Richards wins the European title in his next fight against Dos Santos then that would be a good fight to see where he is. I can't see it. He'll fight some sort of WBC Mediterranean champion who's unbeaten but from a lighter weight against crap opposition, who Frank has promised 15 grand and a Peugeot 207 hdi that's in good nick with only 60k on the clock

Bin men until a cash out fight. Rinse and repeat.

That’s their only plan for this guy.

Realistically we should get a very decent British LHW tournament, but we won't.

Buatsi vs Yarde:
- Winner vs Bivol/Beterbiev winner
- Loser vs Smith

Lerrone Richards vs Lyndon Arthur:
- Winner vs Smith vs Yarde/Buatsi winner. Winner gets next title shot.
- Loser vs Smith vs Yarde/Buatsi loser.

Might just be the greatest gatekeeper for a while.

Pretty much wipes the floor with anyone who isn't world level, but always falls short when stepping up to world class whilst giving a good account of himself.

I wouldn't mind seeing a Buatsi fight, but I think Yarde beats him and then what?

i dont think he has nearly the resume to say he wipes the floor with anyone who isnt world level. he barely ever fights anyone at the level right below world class and he lost to arguably the only one he did. if he had crushed craig richards, marcus browne, dan azeez, max vlasov, sullivan barrera up until 2019 etc.........then i'd believe it

mostly it's crush no hopers like marky nikolic, with the very odd fight vs a top guy (that he loses). it;'s not the best prep when you have to keep making these massive leaps.

now buatsi- there is a really good fight that i'd love to see yarde in. not an absolute world level killer, but still a very good opponent.

Who is Yarde's best win over a guy who doesn't also have a win over him?

exactly, and most of lyndon arthur's cred comes from having beat yarde. its a weird scenario where yarde probably ended up with more creditt for beating arthur in a rematch (cuz then arthur's ranking had shot up from winning the first fight) than if he beat him the first time like a world class fighter should do handily enough

Dec Spelman? Walter Gabriel Sequeira? Richard Baranyi? Nikola Sjekloca?

Were any of them even in the top 100 of a pretty shallow division?

Big asterisk* on Yarde's loss to Arthur tbf.
He lost (something terrible like) his dad, grandad, uncle and cousin within the first month of Covid.
Didn't really look like himself in the ring with LA - can give him a bit of a pass on that result.
Still true what you say, tho'.

Feel like he needs a world level coach to help him, too late now I suspect..he did well against Kov and Beterbiev, better than most would to be fair. He just seems a bit wild still with no plan b.
