GGG appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan
GGG appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan
We will not see the great boxer in the ring again :(
Re: GGG appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan
I'm glad to know he's got a good gig still even after his in ring days are over.

good on him, stayed fighting long enough to grab another huge pay day but not long enough to just become a stepping stone shell of himself

On one hand it's too bad, because he was still a unified champ who could've beat most of the middle weights, on the other hand it's the best thing he could do in his age.
I still believe he got robbed twice against Canelo, but he is rich, successful and healthy.
So not too bad.

Yes, he also walked away right at the top of the game.
In his peak years he was up there with the very best we have seen.
There will only ever be one GGG.
Re: GGG appointed President of the National Olympic Committee of Kazakhstan
One of my favourite fighters in recent times.
A great Middleweight Champion and I enjoyed watching his economical, ruthless and skilled beat downs.
Defo agree with Sendo that he should have got the W against Canelo (the 1st fight, for sure) and was a feared and respected fighter.
A gentlemen and at least, he has his legacy, money and health.

In his prime GGG was easily the best MW post Hopkins.
He would beat everyone in the division now. Including Janibek..

Man, GGG was avoided big time by fighters like Felix Sturm, Quillin, BJS, Cotto and even by Canelo after he won the wbc mw strap @ 155 vs Cotto.
Also lets not forget that 27 y/o Canelo could not beat a 35 y/o GGG and in many eyes GGG won that fight. Even their second fight was close too.

I can't remember any boxer who was more feared in his own division since the days when Mike Tyson was decimating the HWs.
Even as a fan of David Benavidez, I can't imagine him ever casting such a shadow over his rivals.
A 27 year old GGG would probably retire a 35 year old Canelo without any help from Adalaide Byrde who is somehow still working as a judge.

yup, thats true. byrd, moretti, weisfeld and ross were/are canelo's best buddiesThomastearns wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 16:25apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 04:39 Man, GGG was avoided big time by fighters like Felix Sturm, Quillin, BJS, Cotto and even by Canelo after he won the wbc mw strap @ 155 vs Cotto.

Sure, he was not able to hurt Canelo in 36 rounds, but he would definitely retire 35 y old, experienced, undisputed Canelo when he was 27 y old with 14 pro fights against bums in Germany. It is crazy how hate can blind even longtime boxing fans who knows lot about sport. But nothing offensive, i agree GGG was avoided like a plague and should have Quillin, Sturm and Martinez on his resume, probably all by stoppages.Thomastearns wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 16:25apollo creed wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 04:39 Man, GGG was avoided big time by fighters like Felix Sturm, Quillin, BJS, Cotto and even by Canelo after he won the wbc mw strap @ 155 vs Cotto.

he did wobble canelo slightly in the 10th or 11th of the 2nd fight, nothing serious though. he shoulda won the decision in fight 1 but canelo beat him clearly in the next 2. overall i'd say theyre about the same level of fighter, but canelo's vastly superior resume looks like what ggg's resume could've looked like had he gotten better fights

What about 350 amateur fights ? GGG was already very, very experienced and he beat top fighters in the ams. At 27 GGG would be fresher, have more speed and stamina than at 35.Cent0089 wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 18:18Sure, he was not able to hurt Canelo in 36 rounds, but he would definitely retire 35 y old, experienced, undisputed Canelo when he was 27 y old with 14 pro fights against bums in Germany. Also peak vs peak, I've no f'cking doubt that a 30 GGG would clearly beat a 30 Canelo with fair judges.

yeah, thats true but you know its very hard for some people to accept that a 35 GGG boxed a 27 Canelo.margaret thatcher wrote: ↑02 Mar 2024, 20:23 he did wobble canelo slightly in the 10th or 11th of the 2nd fight, nothing serious though. he shoulda won the decision in fight 1 but canelo beat him clearly in the next 2. overall i'd say theyre about the same level of fighter, but canelo's vastly superior resume looks like what ggg's resume could've looked like had he gotten better fights

Good for him. Wish him a happy retirement.

Very, very entertaining fighter... Scarily good in his prime...
