good on him, stayed fighting long enough to grab another huge pay day but not long enough to just become a stepping stone shell of himself

On one hand it's too bad, because he was still a unified champ who could've beat most of the middle weights, on the other hand it's the best thing he could do in his age.
I still believe he got robbed twice against Canelo, but he is rich, successful and healthy.

Yes, he also walked away right at the top of the game.
In his peak years he was up there with the very best we have seen.

One of my favourite fighters in recent times.
A great Middleweight Champion and I enjoyed watching his economical, ruthless and skilled beat downs.
Defo agree with Sendo that he should have got the W against Canelo (the 1st fight, for sure) and was a feared and respected fighter.
A gentlemen and at least, he has his legacy, money and health.

In his prime GGG was easily the best MW post Hopkins.
He would beat everyone in the division now. Including Janibek..

Man, GGG was avoided big time by fighters like Felix Sturm, Quillin, BJS, Cotto and even by Canelo after he won the wbc mw strap @ 155 vs Cotto.
Also lets not forget that 27 y/o Canelo could not beat a 35 y/o GGG and in many eyes GGG won that fight. Even their second fight was close too.

Sure, he was not able to hurt Canelo in 36 rounds, but he would definitely retire 35 y old, experienced, undisputed Canelo when he was 27 y old with 14 pro fights against bums in Germany. It is crazy how hate can blind even longtime boxing fans who knows lot about sport. he did wobble canelo slightly in the 10th or 11th of the 2nd fight, nothing serious though. he shoulda won the decision in fight 1 but canelo beat him clearly in the next 2. overall i'd say theyre about the same level of fighter, but canelo's vastly superior resume looks like what ggg's resume could've looked like had he gotten better fights

What about 350 amateur fights ? GGG was already very, very experienced and he beat top fighters in the ams. Also peak vs peak, I've no f'cking doubt that a 30 GGG would clearly beat a 30 Canelo with fair judges.
