Joe Bugner vs. Paulino Uzcudun

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Heavyweight Bout

Bugner would use his height and reach to outbox the Basque Woodchopper behind his long left jabs, right hands and combinations to take a decision. What do you guys think and who do you got?

Bugner wins a wide but unimpressive UD. I haven't seen much of Uzcudun's films, but I've studied his record, and he doesn't seem to have the size or talent to beat a fighter of Bugner's calibre.

I doubt Uzcudun could land any solid shots against Joe, who always fought cautiously and went into a defensive shell when under pressure. But Bugner would use his height and reach to good effect, and score persistently with quick, slapping left-jabs throughout the fight.

I imagine lots of clinching and stalling between these two. It would be boring because Bugner, in spite of his dominance, would almost never open up with both hands.

Look up the old Boxing News articles on Bugner's wins over Mac Foster, Bepi Ros, and Mario Baruzzi. A Bugner-Uzcudun fight would probably turn out like those bouts.
