Canelo Alvarez Says It Would Take $150m-200m To Face David Benavidez

Post by apollo creed »

“If some promoter, not him because he has nothing to offer me, but if some promoter offers $150m-$200m, then I will fight tomorrow,” Canelo told the media. “That’s the only reason I’d fight with him.” @ B.S

Canelo is trying to set the bar very high/highball for a possible fight in Saudi Arabia. 150-200 is a lot but if he'd get 90-100 then it would be a great, great deal.

Hard core fans want this fight. But casual fans would be saying David who?
This fight is not a financial mega fight. It is a mega fight fir the sport but not for the general public. It won't generate near tge money Canelo wants

I think the saudis would love this fight. They have too much money out there to set the new Mecca of boxing in Saudi Arabia and also promote their country.

The Saudis are not that dumb to pay Canelo 150-200 million.
The interest is not there

The Canelo and Benavidez teams are playing the "let it marinate" game.
They will fight in Las Vegas in September 2025 on a ppv with a $120 price tag.

.....and that is the #1 reason to take some time to build it up.
Hardcore fans will be there no matter when it happens.
They need to attract the casuals on social media to make it a bigger fight.

Benevidez is a risky fight for canelo. If he can get 50 million for cakewalks then 150 for a tough fight probably isn’t that crazy… and I mean you put your price out a bit high expecting to get chipped down a bit.

Problem is I think canelo stocks are just down. I don’t expect canelo vs mung to do massive numbers. I think king canelo era is over and guys like tank, AJ, Fury, usyk, are all bigger ppv draws. And others like Haney and Garcia might not be too far behind.

Canelo is still PPV king .. the big names in the heavyweight division still don't come close as recent figures show.

It's frustrating for the hardcore fans - but as already said. Benavidez still isn't a name and needs Canelo to make himself one.

Sorry I would like to amend my statement ^ cash king… ppv king dosent really make sense now with Saudi deals being site fee based.

I do not believe canelo is still the king. He is still up there but losing momentum. Made 30ish million vs Charlo? Doubt he makes more vs mung…
AJ would have made more last fight, fury and usyk will make more next fight. Tank made more last fight Ryan Garcia would have been close…

Do you heard about negotiations? 70-80 M's would satisfy Canelo. He's just trying to highball his price and get a solid counteroffer.

It could be true. Creating more demand is a very good business strategy.

No, Canelo is the king in terms of boxing fans and buys. He could be 40 y/o and he'd still draw lots of numbers. He is like JCC or ODLH.

Yup, but Benavidez is more proven than Munguia, Charlo, Eubank Jr or Berlanga. Of course that Benavidez is more risky as a fighter. Imo Benavidez should try to get a title in the future at 175 (wbc) and then make Canelo to move up. Bena would have much better chances to beat Canelo at 175. :box:

30 M's is in the FMJ's territory of purses. Floyd made 32 M's vs Maidana. "Canelo pocketed a $50M purse for the Charlo fight". Canelo is by far the king of money as a boxer. Do your research.

Without the Saudi money none of the heavyweights are attracting big money - the Saudis for their own reasons are throwing huge money at the heavyweights creating a totally fake value to them .. no way does Wembley or Las Vegas pay anywhere near the purses the top heavies are getting at moment.

Canelo elevated Bivol to a position of increased earning power. No other fighter in the current game can do that .. I think that says it all.

True. The Saudis have obscene amounts of money and if they'd want to host Canelo vs Benavidez or Canelo vs Bivol/Beterbiev winner in Saudi Arabia, they could do it. :box:

Who cares, Benevidez is moving up in weight and has Bivol and Beterbiev to fight as well. Canelo earned his right to pick and choose and he's even less likely to take that kind of risk after his miscalculation with Bivol. To be fair Benevidez is more of a LHW/Cruiserweight, while Canelo is a blown up middleweight .

Well yeah. I could see Benavidez fighting Bivol/AB winner in Saudi Arabia.

Truth is, as much as I'd like to see the fight, it in no way diminishes Canelo's standing in boxing.
I don't look upon it as a weakness if he doesn't want the fight right now.
