Dave Allen v Jake Darnell

Post by jameswilson »

This weekend in Sheffield.

If he wins does Allen put himself back in line for an English title shot or something like that or will the board not educate ordering him for some kind of title shot? Does he have the right to call anyone of the prospects out assuming he wins?

I don't think anyone wants to see Allen up against a proper prospect who's ultimately going to pass right through English level and into European level or higher. Though, I don't think anyone would mind seeing him against a genuine English, possibly British, level guy for the title who's not good enough for a much higher level.

The absolute best I wouldn't mind seeing him against would be Hughie, Gorman, Fisher, Kash Ali, Jamie TKV, Webster and Adeleye. He probably comfortably loses one-sided beatdown against over half of them. If he can get an English title fight against a worse opponent than them then he's in with a solid chance of winning it.

If Allen were to beat 2 or 3 guys and be 250ish lb then he is right back at nearly weak brittish levle.

But, I think he is just getting a win to be apealing for a prospect again.

Allen vs babic is well overdue. I think he should aim for that. Or Tom little if Tom little is still trying to come back. Even Johnny fisher would be a good fight… but not the DDDs of the world.

I think this is really bad match making. Dave Allen, for all his limitations, is a hard bastard and can bang a bit.

The other kid is really poor and could get hurt. I hope the ref moves in quick when he needs to.

talks about it in this

I remember Darnell making his debut vs Clarke, has been active since, lot of losing stoppages on his record already though, can't be good for him.

Babic has called out Dave Allen, so that might be a future fight.

I am a big Dave Allen fan, I do hope he wins a title before he calls it a day. He's been really good to people around where I love which goes a long way in my opinion. I think he could beat Babic, and perhaps a local dust up with Kash Ali (I know he's a Brummy but Sheffield-based for boxing).

I just worry for his health everytime he announces the latest " really serious " comeback .
Please just leave it alone ...

He is supposed to be a manager so what message does this send to your fighters !

A journeyman is typically the away fighter. Dave has rarely been this with exception of Whyte, Ortiz, Clarke and Yoka. The Price and Thomas fights were deemed 50/50ish at the time. Dave might not be elite but he has not really had to go on the road regularly.

Agreed. Dave Allen was touted as a prospect not long ago and he fights - and beats - journeymen (Darnell, Darch, Bracamonte, Paunov et al.) in between stepping up in class when he usually loses. So, I'm not sure how you'd categorise Allen.

I've always wondered what Dave Allen could've achieved if he'd have dedicated himself. Probably a British title I reckon.

Allen for all his limitations is no way a journeyman. When he enters the ring he is trying to win. He might get soundly beat but he’s far from a journeyman

I agree with that, I'm a big fan of his and like his personality, I hope he wins a belt and gets some more fights in. 2 more fights and he's had more than his grandfather, one more and he's had more than his pa.

I believe the fight is being streamed by Fightzone tomorrow.

the only british champ allen would've had more than a very outside chance to beat over the last decade plus wouldve been sam sexton, who won a vacant title and then lost his first defense. i still would've favoured sexton mind you, he had more to him, only was stopped by higher level fighters than allen, and held the title around the time allen lost to len thomas.

allen could be 100 percent dedicated and he'd still be easy to hit, slow, and lacking boxing skills. he's simply not good enough to have more than an outside chance at that level. he is certainly better than a journeyman domestically but not much higher , if at all, then english level. no shame in it, it's better than most manage

brit champs since 2010, allen way out of his depth here:

fabio wardley
joe joyce
daniel dubois
hughie fury
sam sexton
dill whyte (10-0'd allen)
joshua
fury
price (hammered allen)

allen would be especially interesting as a test for 2nd/3rd tier domestic prospects like tommy welch, fisher, jolly, ignatius, dykes. he could win some of these and lose some

the highest level guy i'd be interested to see him in with would probably be babic

Hope this is the last run we see of Dave Allen, coulda, woulda shoulda, he had the platform and wasted it, got given opportunities that other boxers weren't given and wasted them. Ultimately he got out of what he gave into the sport, the story is done now.

Is he definitely coming back. I know he fought last year but he's had a BK fight since then. I know he's had Kinahanian issues.

I know Donny heavyweight Mark Bennett has a few injuries at the moment but if he could get fit a fight with another Donny local, well Conisbrough really but still in Donny, a fight with Allen v Bennett would fill the Doncaster Dome.

Fair comment. You can't see Dave Allen beating anybody on that list apart from maybe Sexton. But even then Allen wouldn't be favourite.

Again, fair comment.

Allen has been given more opportunities than most, but he's just not been dedicated enough.
