Lionel Rose of Australia, a sensational Aborigine boxer, was a good champion that had the ingredients to be an all time pound per pound great boxer.
His fight with the great Fighting Harada was an extraordinary performance at only 19 years old.
But a year later, he loses to the great Ruben Olivares so easily.
What really happened to him that night? Because he came flat, flat, flat on that night with El Pumas.
What Happened to Lionel Rose against Ruben Olivares?

The weight killed him; he'd rehydrate to 129 after weigh -in less than 12 hours earlier. But, Olivares was simply better.

Re: What Happened to Lionel Rose against Ruben Olivares?
I have read about he had trouble making weight. The problem is that I have with the great Ruben Olivares fight was that he didn't even showed up to the billing as when he did against the great Fighting Harada.
I am not saying that Olivares would have not beaten Rose if Rose had come up in great shape, but the loss to Olivares of Mexico was too easy. Rose was way better than that. At least of what I saw against Harada.
If Rose would have been in the same shape when he beat Harada, it would have been a classic great fight. Olivares would have had a great deal of tough time to beat the Aborigine.

Lionel did enjoy a feed and a million beers between bouts.
Makes it difficult to make weight the healthy way.
Great fighter Lionel Rose, but badly under achieved
