Tony Ekubia has passed
Re: Tony Ekubia has passed
RIP
Ekubia was a tough operator, capturing British & Commonwealth titles. Some decent wins on his record and fought some good guys.
Hard championship fights with Andy Holligan, who proved to be a bridge too far for Tony.
A very respectable career

Re: Tony Ekubia has passed
RIP Champ
Remember reading about his early fights in Boxing News then on TV picking up the Commonwealth crown. Looked finished when decent American Victor Belcher stopped him but came back with a wicked one punch come from behind ko over Alex Dickson.
Later on a young Holligan proved too much over 12 rounds. Was thrown in with undefeated big punching welter Eamonn Loughran, took the youngster apart with Eamonn headbutting his way to a disqualifation so not to get stopped.
Loughran became a WBO Welter champion while Ekubia got a chance of revenge vs Holligan who stopped him in 7 effectively finishing his career. Shame he never got a return with Loughran. Good fighter who gave 100 %.
