Usyk's future
Usyk's future
Is he better off retiring undefeated with his current accomplishments or can he significantly rise in his all time pound for pound or heavyweight ranking with 1-3 more fights?

Re: Usyk's future
he's already beat the next best guys in the division. there is no real standout contender who would boost his legacy
reality is he's not really active enough that he can add much depth either, for the people who dont think he has enough fights
not much he can do to improve his legacy. i think retiring undefeated would be best on that end, but of course it means giving up big paydays.

Re: Usyk's future
Beating Fury again, and I guess if Wilder or Ruiz can manage a win it'd be cool to get a win over them for History's sake just because you'd be adding other Former Champions to your ledger, but neither of those would boost his status like a 2nd Fury win would or the 1st one already did.
The biggest thing he could do to add to his historical ranking is if he were able to beat the guy who winds up being a formidable Champion in the future.
Like let's say Filip Hrgovic gets a shot, and Usyk beats him, and retires shortly thereafter and then like 5 or 6 years down the line Filip Hrgovic is the top guy.
That would be a boost to his legacy, but of course how good a guy you've beaten is gonna do once you're gone is hardly up to you now is it?

Re: Usyk's future
Beat Fury again and retire
Why bother fighting clods like Joyce, Parker, Zhang etc, who are clearly a good few levels below. They'd be a waste of time on his resume.
I suppose taking Kabayel's or Hrgovic's 0 might be a decent feather to add to his cap.

If he beats Fury again, then I'd like to see him in a series of other defences againt the likes of Kabayel, Parker, Anderson, etc.

Said he wants to box til he's 40..
If thats the case, we talking another fight this year.. then possible 2 fights a year?
4-5 more fights possible..

Re: Usyk's future
For his legacy it would be best to retire now and avoid a loss which would add weight to those who will question his greatness in the future.
But it means turning down potentially hundreds of millions ..
If the rematch goes ahead this October, and he gets the win, I would imagine he'd retire then.

He's not a money man, which is good and we've always known this..tonyevs wrote: ↑23 May 2024, 05:39 For his legacy it would be best to retire now and avoid a loss which would add weight to those who will question his greatness in the future.

He should do the opposite of what RJJ did and can just call it a day at the top.
Re: Usyk's future
.. it's difficult for anyone to turn down the sums he will be offered. Money man or not.
He donates lots to Ukrainian causes etc .. be difficult to cut that money off.

I thought a fight against Frank Sanchez would be fun but not anymore. I'll go with rematch with Fury and then retire.

Re: Usyk's future
He should retire and have an ATG legacy. He is 37 y/o. Of course he could milk the game and have another big one vs Fury or maybe a trilogy but health comes first and those punches are dangerous as fuk.

Re: Usyk's future
Parker is a pointless fight. He's a big, stiff, useless idiot and won't add anything to Usyk's legacy.
Kabayel and Hrgovic are really the only two "good" scalps for him.

Re: Usyk's future
37 for a heavyweight is not that much though these days
Re: Usyk's future
I'd like to see him fight some of the younger fighters. Well I say young, they aren't really all that young anymore.
Hrgovic is 32 next month. (IBF #1)
Parker is also 32. (WBO interim)
Kabayel is 31. (somewhere between WBC #1 and WBC #3)
and....
....
...
wait for it...
...
... Manual Charr is 39 years old (WBA Heavyweight Champion of the World)

Fury 2
Hrgovic
Not really that arsed about anybody else.
Maybe if Opetia unified in the mean time and moved up, that would be good final fight against a young lion, pretender to the throne type? It would have the two cruiserweight champions turned heavyweight angle, for even more of the marbles.

Re: Usyk's future
Obvious route is i) Fury ii) Retirement fight in Ukraine. And honestly for that last fight I'd take anyone in the top 15; he's earned an easier fight to bow out on. I was watching his fight with Breidis the other night and he's slowed down a lot from that point in his career. His style is a younger man's style; no reason to be fighting so close to 40.
