I’m pretty sure his fight with IJL was British fight of the year.

Comes across terribly on the podcast. Talking absolute nonsense. He says at one point that in or after the eighth round he thought Catterall was going to win. That would make his eventual score of Taylor by 3 rounds impossible wouldn’t it?

It sounds like he left quite a mark in the boxing world, especially with that memorable fight against Trevor Smith. It's always sad to hear about the passing of someone who made such an impact.

Smith v John-Lewis was a humdinger for the Southern Area title

It must have been an even better fight being there

I saw some of John-Lewis' fights and he was a tough so and so, with plenty of energy.

He didn't get many favours in his match making and was a very decent Area level boxer.

I don't think I saw John-Lewis' fight with Chris Blake, but I'd be surprised if it wasn't another crowd pleaser (up until the cut eye finish).

I was ringside for his 8 rounder with Ray Taylor and Ian was a bit of a whinger that night complaining to the referee.

Darren Dyer punched way too hard for John-Lewis, but Ian was as game as ever.

I saw his 8-rounder with Ray Taylor where Ian complained to the referee. Darren Dyer's power was too much for Ian, but he remained game as ever.

Ian John-Lewis was on the telly a lot back in the late 80s/early 90s when fights would be shown on a Wednesday on ITV or something.

Always entertaining, coming up short in the big fights. Each time I've seen him get stick for dodgy Reffing or Judging I always think back to the limited but big hearted battler he was back then.

A true boxing man.
