This fight was discussed back in 2006 and should've become Hatton's US debut and also his first title fight at welterweight.
Baldomir was in huge demand after an upset win over Judah and seizing the WBC/Lineal welterweight crown. Hatton was meant to be the first one to take a shot at the Argentine.
The Baldomir-Hatton fight was going to be announced at a press-conference. But something didn't click. And eventually Hatton's announcement was Luis Collazo fight in Boston. Baldomir fought Gatti in AC, instead.

I feel like Hatton probably could've eked out a close decision over Baldomir. Baldomir had a tough chin, but was slow and had a fairly predictable attack, and not a lot of pop on his punches. He may be able to hurt Hatton later on in the bout just due to the size advantage, but I'd bet on Hatton to take the best from Baldomir, outwork him, and win a decision.
