George Kambosos Jr. vs. Luke Campbell

Post by EdwardRevolver1993 »

An Olympic Gold Medalist from the UK, Campbell was the guy who had somewhat of a hard luck when it comes to winning a world title in pros.

Came just a bit short against Linares (the fight could've gone either way).

Wasn't supposed to fight Loma for the vacant belt, but had to - due to a controversial WBC decision.

Was scheduled to fight Javier Fortuna for the vacant WBC belt, but the bout was scratched due to Covid.

Let's say, Campbell wouldn't have retired and somehow would've gotten a shot at Kambosos, when he unified titles.

How do you rate his chances at becoming a champion, had he fought Kambosos?

Thought Campbell clearly lost to Linares, although it was a good, close competitive fight
I would pick Campbell to outpoint Kambosos

same, campbell decision. the tools to do more outside than george can do working his way in trying to time something as his style. although defo closer than george's last few loses! more like 116-112/115-113 than total wipeout

Yeah, I think you both make a good point.

Both actually prefer their opponent to come to him. That's why Kambosos struggled with technical fighters like Hughes, Selby. And that's why he was totally disarmed when he tried to box with Haney the 1st time.

With Campbell, he's a classic boxer. What hurt him in the pros is that he somewhat lacked menace, imo. And he likes to box in a measured pace, where he is given time to think.

Kambosos-Campbell bout would turn into a "war of nerves". Both will try to make his opponent to commit first. And I kinda feel that such a fight suits Campbell a bit more. In a waiting game, his length and jab will help him come out on top in a competitive fight.
