a decent display from england, but owen was crap as usual.
Wales crap
Ireland looked on top when I watched, Israel were sluggish. then all of a sudden in the dying seconds they allow Israel a couple of yards and BOOM, a 30 yr screamer evens things up. Still fancy ireland to qualify, probably through the back door though.
Scotland were doomed from the off in the san ciro and will be lucky to beat anyone in the group.

France just drew at home to the Suiss so we are back to where we started before tonights games with Ireland having the easier run-inliamlion wrote:That is one close group. I swear them two points will be rued!

he's crap NOW. he's lost his old deadly speed & turn of pace, the laser finish, the general DANGEROUS STRIKER aura.states wrote:Only 6 men have scored more goals for England than Owen. Clearly he's crap.![]()
I know he can look awful at times, but I do think he comes in for some unnecessary stick some times.
Not a bad performance from England, but our failings will come, as ever, once we've made the finals..........
Now he's predictable, lacking in imagination, often doesn't look interested, could never head the ball, gets muscled off the ball, his runs are often muddled and directionless. plus he has a tendency to take the ball 10 yrds forward then 30 yrds back. And inexplicably go wide.
compare him to rooney who's game is so well rounded, immaculate first touch, beautiful instinctive through balls, creates chances out of nothing, brute strength & speed, a natural, all round player.
Owen used to be a great GOALSCORER but he was never as skilled as Rooney is now, and he's burnt out since his youth. Someone must agree with me.
Oh, I agree he doesn't seem to be the player he was. And he's certainly not got Rooney's talent. Speaking as a Liverpool fan, I'll always argue that he hasn't got Fowler's talent. Damn sight more application, though.... I just think labelling him 'crap' is a bit strong.
Didn't mean to start a row mate, I'm just saying that, despite his failings, he scores goals: always has, always will. And who do you replace him with? I rate Defoe, for instance, but I just can't see him scoring as often.
Anyways, ignore me mate: I'm just reverting to my defensive mood about Liverpool players (or ex-Liverpool in this case). Trust me, I've had to do a lot of defending these last few years......

He is not crap. The guy nearly has 30 goals for England!Riddick Blowe wrote: he's crap NOW. he's lost his old deadly speed & turn of pace, the laser finish, the general DANGEROUS STRIKER aura.

How many strikers in world football would you say are better than Owen?
Not that many which suggests at least 90% (that's being generous) of footallers are crap
Are there any better in England apart from Rooney? Possibly Defoe but he hasn't been around long enough to prove it.
I really don't understand looking for criticism where the team performance yesterday was excellent. Yes Owen has had better games as has David Beckham but how many of their performances and goals over the last few years have saved England. The answer is a lot!
Don't mean to be offensive but this is typical newspaper talk reacting to one performance instead of looking at his excellent overall long term contribution to the England team.
Rant over.
I love the game. But it's dominance on the screens is crazy. Look at what is on terrestrial today though - bastard ice skating and the fornicating boat race!KOJOE90 wrote:I hate football.
Just thought I would share that with you all.
You can't tell me if people watch that shite there isn't a market for the likes of Michael Hunter.
Hunter's trainer Neil Fannan said to local telly they could come and cover a show for nowt. One of the camera lads said it was difficult to get the equipment on a night time!

My sentiments exactly. A load of upper-class anachronistic establishment shite. No problem with the sport at all. But why should these privileged motherfuckers be showcased on national telly?Manos de Oro wrote:I can't believe this boat race garbage is on Sky News' front page. They're even having 'breaking news' segments on it. Makes you think how much Britain has moved on... who cares about this apart from the posh homo-erotic fuckwads taking part?

Are you saying that everyone should totally disregard how Owen has lost all his fire, and not question his selection, based only on his 'long term contribution'?Matchfixer wrote:He is not crap. Why not call up Teddy Sheringham then.
By international football standards, owen no longer cuts the mustard, IMO, and yes, I feel that by these standards, with the amount he is paid, together with the force he used to be, he's crap. At least guys like defoe have something to prove and will be eager to impress and improve on the international stage. Owen is already an old dog who's forgotten his best tricks.
BTW, it's 'typical newspaper talk' which is needed to give our national team the kick up the backside it ALWAYS needs, they play better when the chips are down, and TERRIBLE when they're expected to do well.
Besides, I said that it was a decent performance, but until they prove what they are undeniably capable of doing, (winning or last 4 of world cup or euros) I'll reserve my best praise.

A lot more people like fishing but I don't see that getting loads of hype on national terrestrial TV.Matchfixer wrote:Because some people like the boat race and these priveleged motherfuckers are talented athletes.Ian 'Mr' McNeilly wrote: But why should these privileged motherfuckers be showcased on national telly?
Talented athletes certainly, but why should they be on telly just because they are in an Oxbridge sports team?
Why don't they show Loughborough uni hockey team, for example?
Have you ever looked at a map of the area if so you wouldn't call the asian (being in africa and all)Freiheit wrote:Because the Asians (arabs) dont want them. Owen is still a great and world class striker, just because his confidence is low and his not banging them like usual, does not mean he shouldn't be in the team.
As long as Sven keeps playing him, he will keep banging them in.
BTW IMO Owen has been very good for Madrid, but just hasn't been given a chance coz of there pathetic coach.
BTW Joe Cole was superb, should solve Englands left side problem. I thought that him and Ashely worked well together.
