Antonio Cervantes vs. Hector "Macho" Camacho

Post by scorpio83 »

15 Rounds Super Lightweight Bout

Camacho would have his moments by landing jabs and counterpunches from the early to mid-rounds, but Cervantes would rally back to overwhelm Camacho by jabbing him from long range and landing good combinations to take a decision. What do you guys think and who do you got?

This is a tough fight to pick a winner. Hector "Macho" Camacho was the island of Puerto Rico most complete boxer ever. The guy was something else in the early 80s. Circa 1982-85, The Macho Man was at his very best. I don't know what happened to him in the Edwin "Chapo" Rosario fight in 1986. After that fight, he wasn't the same fighter. Drugs, liquor, fast life and women were his downfall. He lacked dedication after that fight and he was only 24.

Interestingly, as he kept on fighting, he never got knocked out even by fighting the very best boxers after his decline: Greg Haugen, Julio Cesar Chavez, Oscar De La Hoya, and Felix "Tito" Trinidad. He fought them guys when his prime was over.

Those were the types of fighters that gave Antonio Cervantes Kid Pambele of Colombia lots of trouble. Slick fighters like Nicolino Locche and the great Wilfred Benitez did confuse Cervantes. Camacho was slick and much faster than them two.

I would pick Camacho by decision. He had the speed and the chin to take Cervantes' best shots. I mean, if it's the Macho Man of that era of 1982-85.

from 1982-1985, 140 wasn't Hector's weight. By the time he was at that weight, he wasn't the same fighter.
